TEMPORARY BINDER.
application filed. June le',
To a-ZZ ywhom it may compera.'
Beit known that I, Geenen l). VVIcGiNToN,
a citizen of the United States, the city and county of Kalamazoo,
Michigan,
have i residing at State of nvented certain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders, of which the following is a specification. y
rlhis invention relates to improvements in temporary binders.
rIhe main ob]ects of this invention are:
First, to provide an binder or loose sheet adapted for holding loose and one in and the like,
are securely bound handle the same as a improved temporary holder which is well sheets, circulars which the sheets when it is desired to binder and at the same time may be quickly removed or inserted.
Second, to pro for loose sheets i by the devices following specification'.
vide an improved binder n which there. are no exand objects4 relating to will definitely appear description to follow.
objectsof my invention The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention in the accompanylng part of this application,
is clearly illustrated drawing, forming a in which:
Fig. I is a perspective view of a binder embodying the features ofmy invention.
Fig. II is a sectional view on a line corresponding ing shown 1n illustration.
to line 2-2 of` Fig. I, parts befull linesl for convenience in Fig. III is a detail section on a line corresponding to line 3-3 of Fig. II. i
Fig. IV is a perspective view of the binding bars removed Fig. V
body removed fr from the covers.-
is a 'perspective view of the sheet om the binder, the binding posts being removed therewith or being in the sheet body.
Fig. VI is a sectional view corresponding to that of Fig.
II, in which the heads of the posts are arranged on theouter side of the binding flaps instead of on the inside thereof as shown in Fig. II.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, an

taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the covers 1, l are, inthe embodiment illustrated, connected by the dexible back 2. The covers have binding flaps 3 secured. within the same, the flaps being preferably provided with fly leaf extensions i as shown in the drawing.
rIhe sheets 5 are provided with holes 6 adapted to receive the posts 7 having disk like heads 8 thereon adapted to engage the sheet body or engage the binding flaps when arranged on the outer side thereof, as shown in Fig. VI. The posts also have studs 9 projecting beyond the heads 8. rI he binding bars 10 and ll are adapted to be disposed on the outer side of the binding Flaps and are provided with holes l2 aligned with the holes in the binding flaps to receive the studs 9.
rIhe binding bars are detachably connected and clamped upon the binding flaps by means of the coupling members 13 which are pivoted in the longitudinal slot-s le of the lower binding bar l0 and adapted to engage the slots 15 of the upper binding bar. rIhese coupling members are preferably formed of threaded sections, so that they may be adjusted to correspond with the sheet body.
In using my improved binder the heads 8 of the posts may be disposed on the infly leaf on the binding flaps as shown in Fig. II or on the outside thereof as shown in Fig. VI. To a considerable extent this is a matter of taste or con- 'venience If it is desired to handle the attractive in appearance and may be readily adjusted for the insertion or removal of the sheets or leaves. lVhen bound the sheets are securely retained and no metal parts are exposed.
Having thus described my invention,
that they interlap in the 'lll what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. In a temporary binder, the combination with sheets provided with holes adapted to receive posts, of covers, binding flaps within said,I covers having holes therein aligned with the holes of the sheets, posts engaging said holes in said sheets and provided with heads and With outwardly projecting studs, said posts being adapted to be disposed with their heads between the binding flaps and the sheets or on the outer sides of the binding flaps, the posts being arranged from both sides of the sheet body and overlapping therein, and detachable binding bars disposed on the outer sides of said binding flaps and provided with holes receiving said studs, said binding bars being provided at their ends with disengageable and extensible coupling means.
2. In a temporary binder, the combination with sheets provided with holes adapted to receive posts, of covers, binding flaps within said covers having holes therein aligned with the holes of the sheets, posts engaging said holes in said sheets and provided with heads and with outwardly projecting studs,
and detachable binding bars disposed onV the outer sides of said binding flaps and provided with holes for receiving said studs, said binding bars being provided at their ends with disengageable and extensible coupling means.
3. In a temporary binder, the combination with 'sheets provided with holes adapted to receive posts,l of covers, binding flaps within said covers having holes therein aligned with the holes of the sheets, posts engaging said holes in said sheets and provided with heads and with outwardly projecting studs, said posts being adapted to be disposed with their heads between the binding flaps and the sheets or' on the outer sides of the binding flaps, the posts being arranged from both sides of the sheet body and overlapping therein, and binding bars disposed on the outer sides of said binding flaps and provided with holes for receiving said studs and with coupling means.
4. In a temporary binder, the combination with sheets provided with holes adapted to receive posts, of covers, binding flaps within said covers having holes therein aligned with the holes of the sheets, posts engaging said holes in said sheets and provided with heads and with outwardly projecting studs, andbinding bar s disposed on the outer sides of said binding ilaps and provided with holes for receiving said 'studs and with coupling means.
5. In a temporary binder, the combination with sheets provided with holes adapted to receive posts, of covers connected by a ilexible back, binding flaps within said covers witnesses.
having holes therein aligned with the holes of the sheets, posts engaging said holes in said sheets and provided with heads and with outwardly projecting studs, said posts beingl adapted to be disposed with their heads between the binding flaps and the sheets or on the outer -sides of the binding flaps, the posts being arranged from both sides of the sheet body and overlapping therein, and binding bars disposed on the outer sides of said binding flaps and provided with holes for receiving said studs land with coupling means.
6. In a temporary binder, the combination of the covers provided with binding flaps having holes therein, sheet and flap engaging posts provided with heads and with outwardly projecting studs, said posts being adapted to be disposed with their heads between the binding flaps and the sheets or on the outer sides of the binding fla-ps, and detachable binding bars disposed on the outer sides of said binding flaps and provided with holes for receiving said studs, said binding bars being provided at their ends with disengageable and extensible coupling means. l
7. In a temporary binder, the combination of the covers provided with binding flaps having holes therein, sheet and iap engagingposts provided with heads and with outwardly projecting studs, and detachable binding bars disposed on the outer sides of said binding flaps and provided with holes for receiving said studs, said binding bars being provided at their ends with disengage' able and extensible coupling means.
8. In a temporary binder, the combination of the covers provided with binding flaps having holes therein, sheet and flap engaging posts provided with heads and with out- Wardly projecting studs, said posts being adapted to be disposed with their heads between the binding flaps and the sheets or on the outer sides of the binding flaps, and binding bars disposed on the outer sides of said binding flaps and provided with holesV for receiving said studs.
9. In a temporary binder, the combination of the covers provided with'` binding flaps having holes therein, sheet and flap engaging posts provided with heads and with outwardly projecting studs, and binding bars disposed on the outer sides of said binding iaps and provided with holes for receiving said studs.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of tim GEORGE P. wieeiN'roN. [L sj Witnesses:
