GEORGE I. 'WIGGINTQN, OF KALAIVIAZOO, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOF TO KALAIVIAZOO LOOSE LEAF BINDER (30., F KALAIVIAZOO, MICHIGAN.
'rnmroaasy BINDER 0nlioosn-srraer HOLDER.
Application filed'Jnne 10, 1921. Serial No. 476,416.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonor. I. Wrcerwron, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Kalamazoo, State of lvlichigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders or loose-Sheet Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in temporary binders or loose sheet holders.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide an improved temporary hinder or loose sheet holder which is well adapted for holding loose sheets, circulars and the like, as those of a loose leaf catalog, and one in which the sheets are securely bound when it is desired to handle the same as a binder and at the same time may be readily freed.
Second, to provide an improved temporary binder in which the parts are economical to produce and may be manufactured and held in the knockdown to be assembled as desired with a variety of grade or qualties of covers, sizes of backs and the like.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a rear perspective view of a loose sheet binder embodying the features of my invention.
Fig. II is a transverse section on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Figs. I and V.
Fig. III is an enlarged detail section corresponding to that of Fig. II, with the back members omitted.
Fig. IV is an enlarged detail section corresponding to that of Fig. II, with the covers arranged so thatthey close over the post bars. Fig. V is a sectional view on aline cor.- responding to line 55 of Figs. I and II, parts being shown in full lines for convenience in illustration. Y
Fig. V1 is an enlarged detail section cor responding to that of Fig. II With it Wider back member and a longer post,
Fig. VII is a detail perspective view of 1 the post bars removed from the binder.
In the drawing similar reference charac ters refer to similar parts throughout the, several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the cover members 1 are provided with binding portions 2 at the rear connected thereto by the flexible or hinge portions 3.
I provide a pair of post bars 'each carrying posts 5, the posts being arranged in. al ternate relation as shown in Fig. V to engage the sheet body 6 and overlap in the sheet body as illustrated.
I also preferably provide telescoping back members 7, the back members being angleshaped and adapted to be disposed between the cover members and the sheet body or on the outside of the cover members as may be desired. The cover members and back members are provided with aligned holes adapted to receive the sheet-engagingposts. The post bars are provided with couplings compris-' ing sections 8 pivoted at 9 on; the end of one of the post bars and the sections 10 threaded into the sections 8 and provided with heads 11 adapted to engage the slots 12 in the other post bar, so that the post bars are detacliably and adj ustably' connected. I Ihese cm i post bars may be arranged on the outside of the cover members as shown in Figs. I, III, V and VI, or may be arranged so as to be embraced by the covers when they are closed, as shown in Fig. IV, it being largely a matter of the taste or convenience of the user.
With the parts thus formed and arranged they maybe manufactured and held in the knockdown and set up or sent out in the knockdown and the. parts assembled for binders to meet particular requirements, that is, the style of binding, the size of the back and the like may be varied to suit the requirements of the user. 1 I
My improved binder is neat and attractive in appearance and very convenient to manipulate for the insert-ion or removal of sheets or leaves.
Having thus described invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i 1. Ina loose leaf binder, the combination.
independent GOV??? member clefachablfi angle-shaped telescoping back members, said
cover and back members having aligned holes, and detachable post bars each provided with sheet-engaging posts adapted also to engage the aligned holes of said cover and back members, and post-bar coupling members pivotally mounted at the ends of one of said binding bars, the other being slotted toreceive the same,sa1d coupl1ng members comprising sections threaded for adjustment.
,2. In aloose leaf binder, the combination of independent cover members, detachable angle-shaped telescoping back members, said cover and back members having aligned holes, and detachable post bars each provided with sheet-engaging posts adapted also to engage, the aligned holes of said cover and back members, and means for detachably connecting said post bars disposed at the ends thereof 3. In aloose leaf binder, the combination of cover members, detachable post bars each of independent cover members, back members independent of said cover members, detachable postbars provided with sheetengaging posts with which said cover members and back members are also adapted to engage, and means for connecting said post bars. 5. In a loose sheet hinder, the combination with the covers, detachable'angleshaped back members disposed in a :super' imposed relation with said covers and the sheets to be bound, detachable postbars provided with sheet-engaging posts with which said cover and back members are also adapted to engage, and means for detachably connecting said post bars independent of their sheet-engaging posts.
6. In a loose leaf binder, thecombination of the cover members, back members independent of said cover members, detachable post bars adapted to be disposed in superimposedrelation to said covers and 'sheets and provided with sheet-engaging posts with which said cover and back members are also adapted to engage, said posts being disposed out of alignment, and connecting-means for said post bars. a I In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two; witnesses.
