GEORGE 1?. WIGGINTON, 0F KALAMAZOQ MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO KALAI'IIAZOO LOGSE LEAF BINDER COMPANY, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
BINDER.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen P. VVlGGIIiNTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at city and county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Binders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in temporary binders or loose sheet holders.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, 'to provide an improved temporary binder or loose sheet holder which is well adapted for use in holding loose sheets and circulars such as those of a loose leaf catalog in which all. of the sheets are securely bound when it is desired to handle them in a binder in a bound relation, and at the same time they are readily freed as occasion may re uire. i
econd, to provide a loose sheet holder or temporary binder which is compact in structure, light in weight so that it may be easily carried about and at the same time one in which the sheets are bound in a neat and secure manner.
Further objects and objects relating to structural details will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure'which is a preferred. embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this'specification, in which:
Fig. I is a rear perspective view of one embodiment of my invention.
Fig. II is a detail longitudinal section thereof on lines corresponding to line 2+2 of Figs. III, IV and VII- Fig. III is a detail transverse section on ya line correspondingto 3-3 of Fig. IV.
Fig. IV is a detail section on a line corresponding to 44'of Figs. II and III. Fig. V is a detail section similar to that of Fig. II illustrating the expansion of the binder. 7 Fig. VI is a perspective view of sheet body and post bars removed as a unit from the binder members.
Fig. vii is a detail inside View of one of the covers showing the adjusting means for Specification of Letters Patent. Patgnted P 1 28, 1922,

several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the covers .1 are orovided with recesses or chambers. The ends of the flexible back 3 telescope into these chambers; cover 2 also contains the adjusting mechanism designated generally by the numeral i-see Figs. II and VII. The binding strips 5 are connected atone end to this adjustingmechanism which issubstantially that shown in Letters Patent No. 1,010,556 issued to me December 5, 1911. As the details of this adjusting mechanism form no part of my present invention they are not further illustrated or described herein.
The binding strips 5 extend between the covers, being disposed through the clamping members 6 which. are pivotally mounted on the covers, these clamping members being mounted substantially as shown in my said patent. The sheets 7 are provided with notches 8 and with holes 9, the notches opening at the binding edges of the sheets and the holes being disposed adjacent the binding edges of sheets. The notches are in position to receive the'binding strips 5 while the holes receive the posts 10 carried by the post bars 11, each bar in the structure illustrated being provided with a pair of the posts. The posts of'the bars are disposed out of alignment so that they over-lap in the sheet body as shown in Fig. III. These post bars are detachably mounted on the clamping members, the bars being provided with pins 12 which engage holes 13 provided therefor in the clamping members. The post bars I 11 are provided with notches 11' adapted to register with the 'notches;8 of the sheets to receive the binding members.
With this arrangement of parts, when the clamping members areseparated or retracted the body of sheets bound by the with adjusting means, post bars notched to receive said binding strips and. provided with pins engaging said holes in said clamping members whereby said post bars are re movably retained thereon, and sheet engaging posts on said post bars disposed out of alignment.
9. In a temporary binder, the combination of covers, clamping members pivotally connected to said covers, and having holes therein, binding strips extending between said clamping members, post bars notched to receive said binding strips and provided with pins engaging said holes in said clamping members whereby said post bars are removably retained thereon, and sheet engaging posts on said post bars.
10. In a temporary binder, the combination of covers, clamping members pivotally connected. to said covers, binding strips extending between said clamping members,
post bars provided with sheets engaging posts disposed out of alignment, said bars being notched to receive said binding strips and provided with means engaging said clamping members whereby said post bars are removably retained thereon.
-11. In a temporary binder, the combination of covers, clamping members pivotally connected to said covers, binding strips extending between said clamping members, post bars provided with sheets engaging posts, said bars being provided with means engaging said clamping members whereby said post bars are removably retained thereon.
12. In a temporary binder, the combination of binder members, binding members for said binder members, and post bars provided with sheet engaging posts disposed out of alignment and detachably engaged with v said binder members.
13. In a temporary hinder, the combmation of binder members, binding members 15. In a loose leaf binder, the combination with hinged cover portions, of a pair of detachable transfer bars normally lying adj acent to the respective cover members and each having impaling posts thereon adapted to extend through the leaves and means for securing the cover members together.
16. In a loose leaf binder, the combination with hinged cover portions, of a pair of detachable transfer bars normally lying adjacent to the respective cover members and each having impaling posts thereon adapted to extend through the leaves, and means in: dependent of the impaling posts for securing the cover members together.
17. In a loose leaf binder, the combination with hinged cover portions, of a pair of detachable transfer bars normally lying adjacent to the respective cover members and each having impaling posts thereon adapted to extend through the leaves, and means for securing the cover members and transfer bars together.
18. In a loose leaf hinder the combination with hinged cover portions, of a pair of detachable transfer bars normally lying adjacent to the respective cover members and each having impaling posts thereon adapted to extend through the leaves, and means independent of the impaling posts for securing the cover members and transfer bars together.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
