r TEMPORARY BINDER Filed Aug. 15, 1924 @mwa INVENTOR BY G orge P. Wigginron I ATTORNEY-7 Patented May 13, 1930 UNITED STATES ATENT- OFFIC GEORGE P. WIGGINTON, or KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN, 'A'ssIenoR, BY MEsNE ASSIGN- MEN'IS, TO REMINGTON RAND 11m, OF NEW YORK, v. Y., A CORPORATION OF DELA- WARE TEMPORARY BINDER Application filed August 1 5, 1924. Serial No. 732,216.
This invention relates to improvements in temporary blnders.
The main object of this invention is to pro-- I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing-forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a plan view of a structure embodying the features of my invention with the top thereln engaging the headed studs 16 wherecover thrown back, or open.
Fig. II is 'a perspective View of the covers of the binder open with the sheets and the transfer bar removed.
7 Fig. III is an enlarged detail section on a line corresponding to line 33 of Figs. I and IV.
Fig. IV is a detail longitudinal section on a line corresponding to line H of Figs. I and III.
Fig. V is a fragmentary perspective view of the sheets removed from the binder with the transfer bar.
Fig. VI is an inverted perspective view of the transfer bar.
In the drawing the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines and similar numerals of reference indicate similar parts in all of the views.
, Referring to the drawing, the covers 1, 1 are, in the embodiment of my invention illustrated, flexible covers andv they are. con- 'flaps 3 and 4 are connected to the covers nected by a flexible back 2. The binding b the'flexiblehinge connections 5.- v I provide a bottom binding bar Shaving posts' 7 mounted thereon, this bottom binding barbein connected to the bottom'binding flap 3 by means of the fasteners 8. These fasteners are preferably flexible fasteners so sembled with or detached from the binding flap as desired.
- The top binding bar 9 is connected to the top binding flap by means of fasteners '8. These binding bars may, however,;be permanently connected to the binding flaps. if
project through the top binding bar as shown -in;Figs. III and IV. A locking slide 13is mounted upon the top binding bar, this lock- -ingslide being provided with key-hole slots 14 adapted to engage the heads of the posts.
that the binding bar may be readily asr The locking slide has longitudinal slots 15 i The transfer bar is provided with posts v 21, the sheets also having holes 22 for the 7 binding posts.
In use the sheets arearranged upon the posts 7, the transfer bar engaged with the sheets, the top binding bar closed and the binder-locked by means of the locking slide. When it is desired to open the binder for insertion or removal of sheets, the top binding bar is released'and disengaged from the posts and the sheet body can be opened at the desired place by lifting off the sheets above that point together with the transfer bar, the transfer bar holding the sheets in proper alignment so that they may be replaced as a body as indicated in Fig. V, or, of
course, the entire sheet body may be arranged on the transfer bar. and then replaced in the binder, or manipulated as desired.
My improvements are especially designed by me for embodiment in relatively small binders, although desirablev and readily adapted for use in larger binders.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let- 10 j 'r Patent igp I l. Ina temporary binder, the combination of covers, binding flaps on the covers, bind- I ing bars detachably connected to said flaps, binding posts on one of said bars, means on.
Q 15 the other bar for locking the ends of the bind- 0" openings,
1 ing posts thereto, and'a transfer bar provided fWltlL,Sll6t-8l1gtgl1lg posts removably disposed inwardly ofthe last-mentioned binda in'gbar; e I 2. Ina temporary binder, the combination ofvcovers connected by a flexible back, binding flaps on the covers, top and bottom bind- ,ing bars detachably connected to said flaps, binding posts on one of said bars engageable in openingsiin theother bar, means for de- 1 tachably locking said posts in said openings, 7 and a; transfer; bar provided with sheet-engaging posts removably disposed inwardly of a the binding bar having the post receiving 3. Ina temporary hinder, the combination of coversconnected by aflexible back, bindingfiapshinged on the'covers, top and bottom binding bars detaohably connected to said 1 flaps, binding posts on the bottom binding bar 1 I is hand,
engageablein openings in the top binding l ar,,means on the topbar fordetachably engaging and locking the ends of said posts in said openings, and a transfer bar provided n with sheet; engagingposts and having openings to slidably receive said binding posts removably disposed'inwardly of the top bind- V ingbar. 7
In witness whereofI have hereunto set my 7 v GEORGE P. WIGGINTON,
