JOHN WALKER, J'R., OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
TEMPQRARY BINDER, FILE, LOOSE-LEAF BOOK, AND THE LIKE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHN WALKER, Jr., of Farringdon House, Warwick Lane, in the county of London, England, manufacturer, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Temporary Binders, Files, Loose-Leaf Books, and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to temporary binders, files, loose leaf books and the like.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved device on which loose leaves, papers, documents or the like may be simply and efiiciently filedor temporarily bound and from which any particular one can be removed without removing those above it from the device.
A device constructed in accordance with this invention comprises two plates provided with telescopic filing members one of said plates being adapted to be slid on, and to be partially rotated about, the other plate, and means for holding the device in its closed position.
Reference is made to the wherein,
Figure l is an elevation showing the binder closed; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the binder open; and Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line AA of Fig. 1.
In accordance with this invention I provide two plates a and b L-shaped in crosssection, and having telescopic filing members o 0, d d, the plate a having in addition pins or posts 6 e whereof the purpose will be hereinafter described. One of said plates (the plate a for example) is adapted to be slid on the other until the filing members 0 c on said plate a are free of the filing members d d on the plate .7) and the plate a is then adapted to be partially rotated about the plate 6. The plate a is provided with posts or pins 6 6 having heads formed with grooves adapted to be engaged by slotted plates or hooks g g mounted so as to slide upon the plate 1) whereby to hold the device in its closed position.
A hinge connection between the plates at and b is efi'ected by the following means. it is the flanged edge of the plate 6. 7c is a guide slot formed in said plate. m m m are headings on the plate a. 0 is a hingedrawings pin or wire passed axially through said headings and adapted to engage the flanged edge h when the plates are drawn apart thus Specification of Letters Patent.

limiting their outward movement and forming a hinge joint. The headings m m on form guides to prevent lateral movement of the plates when extended and to insure that the telescopic filing members are brought into correct axial alinement prior to the closing of the plates.
In use, when it is desired to remove from the device any particular loose leaf or the like, the device is first unlocked by sliding apart the hooks g g on the plate Z) and all the loose leaves or the like above the desired one and carried by the filing members on plate 6 are moved bodily with the plate I) away from the plate to until the telescopic filing members 0 0, cl (Z disengage. At the limit of its sliding movement the plate I) is partially rotated carrying with it on its filing members the loose leaves or the like. The desired loose leaf or the like may then be removed. In closing the device the plate 6 with the leaves or the like on its filing members (Z (Z is partially rotated until the telescopic filing members on the two plates are in axial alinement and the plate Z) is then slid so that said filing members telescope and the device may then be locked by sliding toward one another the hooks g 9, so as to cause them to engage with the grooves f f in the heads of the posts 6 c.
A device constructed in accordance with this invention is simple in operation as any particular leaf can be removed or a leaf can be inserted in any desired position with great facility. Furthermore the device possesses a great advantage in that the opening of the file may be effected simultaneously with the raising of the leaves on file from that one which it is desired to withdraw, and without removing any of said leaves from the device.
WV hat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A temporary binder, file, loose leaf book or the like comprising two plates adapted to he slid apart, telescopic filing members mounted upon said plates, posts orpins mounted on one of said plates in addition to the telescopic filing members thereon and adapted to be engaged by locking devices carried by the other plate and means whereby one plate may be rotated partially about the other plate when the telescopic filing members have become disengaged, the opening of the file to remove a leaf being effected simultaneously with the raising of those documents or leaves on file above that-one 'ofsaid -1nembers, and a locking device car- Which it is desired to Withdraw, the file bei'ng closed by the converse operation.
2. A temporary binder, file, loose leaf book, or the like, comprising two members having-filing means, said members being adapted to be relatively moved to separate said filing means, and means for connecting said members so that one may be rotated partially about the other When such means are separated, a poster pin mounted on one ried by the other of said members for engagingsald post or m.
In wltness -Whereot, I have hereunto slgned my name in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
