Description
Dec. 269 i922 ASQY@ G..P; WIGGINTUN. TEMPORARY BINDER E|LED SEPTy 20. |921.
M @{MM Patented Dec. 26, 1922.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE P. WIGGINTON, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR 'llO KALAMAZOO LOOSE LEAF BINDER CO., 0F KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
TEMPORARY BINDER.
Application led September 20, 1921. Serial No. 502.042.
To all whom, it may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. lVieerN-v rroN, a citizen of the United States, residing Y at the city andcounty of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in temporary binders.
The main objects .of this invention are To provide an improved temporary binder which is well adapted for the holding of loose sheets, circulars and the like, is easily adjusted to secure the sheets and to permit their removal or insertion and at the same time one in which the sheets are very securely held.
A further object is to provide an improved binder havingy these advantages which is very neat and attractive in appearance and also economical to produce.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is apreferred-embodiment'of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this applica-tion, in which:
Fig. I is a rear perspective view of a temporary, lbinder embodying the features of my invention.
- Fig. II is a detail section on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Fig. I, a post being shown artially in full lin Fig. II is a detail section on a line corresponding to line 3-3 of-Fig. II, the coupling members and posts being shown in full lines. n
Fig. IV is a perspective view of one of the post sections.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the covers l, 1 are,.in the embodiment illustrated, connected by the exible back 2. Within 'the coversare binding bars 3, the bars being hinged to the covers by means of the flexible connections 4. These binding bars have holes 5 adapted to receive the studs 6 of the binding posts 7, the opposed bar having recesSes 8 aligned with the holes, the recesses being adapted to receive the outer ends of the posts, asshown in Fig. III.
The posts are preferably of the sectional type, as illustrated, and are-provided with collar-like sheetengaging heads 9 which engage the sheet body 10, the posts being arranged through the sheet body from opposite sides thereof, as shown in Fig. III. The sheet body is then secured together as a unit so that it may be removed as a unit from the binder or either cover may be opened, the
binding posts having their heads at the top removed andthe sheets lifted from the opposed posts.
The binding bars are adjustably connected by the coupling members 11 formed of adjustably connected sections 12 and 13, the section 12 being threaded into the section 13. The section 18 is pivoted at 14 to one of the binder bars while-the section 12 has a head 15 adapted to detachably engage a-slot 16 in the other bar, so that the coupling members may be engaged and disengaged with a swlnging movement. The coupling members and the sectional posts may be readily adjusted to accommodate the sheet body. ,I
improved binder is attractive in appearance and at the same time is Vvery economical to produce and, while the sheets are effectively bound, they are very easily removed and replaced as occasion may requ1re.
Having thus described my invention, what ,I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a temporary binder, the combination with sheets provided with holes adapted to receive posts, of covers connected by a iiexible back, binding bars hinged within saidcovers, sectional posts provided with collar-like sheet-engaging heads and with studs detachably engaging said binding bars, a 'part of said posts being arranged to enter from each side into the sheet bod the binding bars having recesses adapte to receive the outer ends of the posts, anddisengageable and extensible coupling members for said binding bars disposed at the ends thereof.
2. In a temporary binder, the combination with sheets provided with holes adapted to receive posts, of covers connected by a flexible back, binding bars hinged within said covers, sectional posts provided With collar like sheet engaging heads and with. studs detachably engaging said binding bars, said posts being arranged to enter from each side into the sheet body, and disengageable and extensible coupling members for said binding bars disposed at they ends thereof 3. In a temporarvT binder, the combination of covers, binding bars hinged to said covers. posts provided with collar-like sheetengaging heads and with studs detachably engaging said binding bars, the binding bars having recesses adapted to receive the outer ends of the posts, and coupling members for said binding bars disposed at the ends thereof.
4. In a. temporary binder, the combination of covers, binding bars hinged to said covers, posts provided with collar like sheet-engaging heads and with studs detachably engaging said binding bars, and coupling members for said binding bars disposed at the ends thereof.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two Wit- F. 0. RICHMOND.
