ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Application filed Aug t 3,1922; s nate. 579,328.
T0 all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, HARVEY F. JAoKsoN,
a citizen of. the United States, and a resi dent of borough of Brooklyn, city ofNew 5 York, county of Kings, Stateof New York,
have invented an Improvement in Advertising -Devices, of whichthe following 'is a specification This invention relates. to advertising devices, and withregard tofcertain more specific features, to a combined picture or the like and support therefor." f U I Among the several objects of the invention inay'he-notedthe provision ofla simple and inerpensive device for displaying a picture or suitable legends or the like and the provisionof a strikingly attractive device of this type which canloe made from a single blank and shipped flat.
25. are exemplified in the description hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the scope of the application of which will be claims.
hodiinents of the invention,
'Fig. 1 is a face view of the flat; y g r Fig. 2'isa front elevation of thedevice in display position;
device shown Fig. 3 isa right sldeelevation of F 2;'
responding parts throughoutthe several views of the-drawings r Referring now more particularly to Figs. 1 to 4 ofthe accompanying drawings, there is illustrated at 1 a device formed of a single sheet of suitable material such as patent coated solid manila. For a size such as 18%):44: inches, a thickness of v points is suitable Other, ob
20 jects will befin. part obvious and injpart indicated in the following- In the accompanying drawings, in. which are illustrated two of various possible em The device may takea variety of forms.
In F ig's'. 1 tor, the middle: portion 2 of the device carries the picture of a girl, having a head portion 3 extending above the main bodyv of the device and having shoulder portions. oadapted to be cut from the main body'; of the device along the lines 7, so that when the device is folded for display. the
shoulder portions stand out in front of the ,ma n'body of the device," as is shown in Fig. 4c, for example. The side ' portions 8, 15
from the flat 'orshipping formshown in Fig. ltothe display form shown Figs, 2 ,to 4. 7'
Part of the device restsupon the floor or show case or the like,gin a, plane in advance of the other parts of the base. [This fact coupled with'the factv that the device is of one piece, with scoring converging'toward the rigidity and stability necessary for display purposes, when' substantially thinner material is usedthan is ordinarilynsed for devices of similar size;
In the preferred construction there are four scorelines 9, 10, 11, 12 which divide the article into ifive parts, 8, l3, 2, 14, 15.- The two outer score lines 9, 12 converge toward the top. The twoinner score lines 10,11 begin adjacent, the upperend of the outer score lines/9, 12land.convergev toward the [bottomf-The part. 2, wfhich is included between the inner scoreilines 10, 11" bears a stand at the rear of and at an angle to the the top to make. the device "stable, ensures designlflf such as the picturejo'f aperson' I or article or a suitablelegend, forexample.
and is inclined 'rearw ardly when in display position; The parts 8, 15 which are on the outsideof the outerscore lines9, 12 are in an approximately vertical position and substantially 1n alinement with each other when the device is set up for display. The parts i 13', 14 which are on the outside of the inner score lines 10, 11 form an angle with the center part 2 and the outer parts 8, 15 and form the connecting links? between the outer parts 8, 15 and thecenter part 2.
Itwill be seen that noextraneous supports are required, and no gluing or expensive folding is required, either in manufacture or installation of the article.
By having the sides of the article disposed tothe rearxo'fithe central portion, the Centr l portion appears to stand out fromthe rest and to present a striking appearance.
In Figs. 5 to 8 is shown a modifiedforrn, in which the protruding portions 5 are omitted. In this formno-cutting is required withinthe contour of the article.
The articles of both types herein illustrated my be shipped flat, and maybe readily folded into shape for use by comparatively unskilled labor.
From the above it will be Seen that the several obj ects of the invention are attained and other iadvanta eous results achieved.
i-As Ina- 11y modiiications of the ernhodimerits above illustrated might be made without departing froinl-t-h'e spirit or scgpe o'ft'he P s t n ent on, t ntended tha he above description and accompanying draw- I ings and claims shall be interpreted "as illusparts outside the outer lines fbein .in an approximately vertical posit on and 1n vapprox mate al neme n't Wltll QZl-Cll other when the device isset 'upjtor display, the parts on the 'ioutsideof the inner lines forming an angle withthe center part and with theeuter parts and connecting the outer parts and the center part. i
,2. An advertising device comprising a one-piece body having four score lines dividing the article into fiveparts, the outer lines converging toward the top, the inner lines beginning adjacent the upper end of the outer-lines and extending to'the bottom, the part includedbetweenthe innertlines bearing a design and inclined rearwardly when in display position, the parts outside -theo'uter lines being in an approximately vertical position and in approximate alinement with each other when the device is set up for display, the parts on the outside of the inner lines forming an angle with the center part and with the outer parts and forming the connecting links between the outer parts and the center part.
3. An advertising device comprising a one-piece body having four score lines dividing the article into five parts, the outer lines converging toward the top, the inner lines beginning adjacent the upper end of the outer lines and converging toward the bottom, the part included between the inner lines bearing a. design and inclined rearwardly when in display positioin the parts outside the outer" lines being in an approx mately vertical position and in approximate alinement with eachother when the device is set up for display, the parts on the outside of the inner lines storming an angle with the center part and with the outer parts and forming the connecting links between the outer parts andthe center part.
t. An advertising device comprising a body having four score lines dividing the article into a central part, two outer parts and two intermediate parts, the outer lines converging towardthe top, the inner lines beginning adjacent the upper end of the outer lines and extending to the'bottom, the cen tral part bearing a design and being inclined rearwardly when in display position; the de sign extending beyond theinner lines and being cut at its outline insaid intermediate pert-whereby sucheXtended portion of the design stands out from the intermediate part when the device is in'display position,
the outer parts being in an approximately vertical position andin approximate alinement with each other when the device is set up for display the intermediate parts forming an angle with-the center part and with the outer parts and forming the connecting links between the outer parts and the center part.
In testimony whereof. I have signed my name to this specification ,this- 2 day August, "1922. 4
