' To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES A. MONTGOM- ERY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Articles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has reference to an improved advertising article, which isto be printed on the lithographic pr'ess, cut by dies into the required shape and packed and shipped in fiat condition to the party who desires to advertise goods, the device being then folded when required for use, so that the rear-portion of the same acts in the nature of a stay for the frontportion on which the advertisement to be displayed is arranged; and the invention consists of an advertising article made of one integral piece of paper or other suitable material cut into suitable shape and folded transversely at a median line of the same, so as to form a front-portion and a rear-portion or stay, the rear-portion being provided with an incision extending from the transverse fold, while the front-portion has an extension at its upper end separated by the incision from the rearportion, so that when the front or rear-portions are folded, the extension of the frontportion projects above the rear-portion, as will be fully described hereinafter.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a top-view of a blank of my improved advertising article, showing the same represented in the shape of a bottle. Fig. 2 is a front-view of the same, showing the blank folded up on a transverse median line. Fig. 3 is a rear-elevation of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of my improved advertising article, shown in position for use.

Referring to the drawings, A A represent the blankfor my improved advertising article. This blank is made of a flat strip of paper or other suitable material, of suitable thickness, which is printed in suitable colors, so as to represent any desired'article whether the same be a bottle, an inkstand, a figure or any other article. By means of a dieof proper shape corresponding to the article to be produced, the paper is cut out. The blank A A is folded on short transverse lines I), b, which are preferably creased at the rear-side and if desired reinforced by muslin-hinges, so as to form a front-portion A and the rear-portion A. An incision a extends from the inner ends of the lines I), 1), into the rear-portion A, so that the body of paper separated by the incision a from the rear-portion forms an ex tension 0 of the front-portion A and completes thereby the representation of the article to be produced, forming for instance, in the case of a bottle the neck of the same, and in the case of a figure, the head and neck of the figure.

The lower edges of the front and rear-portions A A are made so that the device can be readily supported on said lower edges, the rear-portion A being placed at an angle of inclination to the front-portion and acting in the nature of a stay for the same.

It is obvious that any desired article can be reproduced in the manner described, the rearportion serving as a stay while this upward extension of the front portion which is cut from the adjacent part of the rear-portion completes the article. The advertising matter is arranged on the front-portion.

The advertising article can be used for a large variety of different devices and has the advantages, first, that it requires no special stay for supporting the frontportion, as the rear-portion serves directly for this purpose; second, that by utilizing the stock of the rearportion for the upward extension of the frontportion, the article itself as well as the extension of the front-portion can be out quickly by means of a die fromone integral piece of paper or other suitable material, and then shipped in flat condition being folded up when distributed for use.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An advertising article, composed of one integral piece of suitable material and divided by short transverse lines at a median line of the blank so as to form front and rear-portions, the rear-portion being provided adjacent to the front-portion with an incision and 10 front-portion having at its upper end an extension that is separated by an incision from the adjacent part of the rear-portion, substantially as set forth.
