CHARLES LOHRMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
I'Nvolol-z-sHlala-l'.v
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 645,820, dated March 20, 1900, Application iiled December 20,1899. Serial No. 740,993. (No model.)
To all whom it' may concern.- K
Be it known that I, CHARLES LOHRMAN, a citizen of the United States, residin g at the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Invoice-Sheet,"
of which the following is a'full, clear, and exact description. v
One object of my invention is to so construct an invoice-sheet that when used in connection with a carbon-sheet or other duplicating medium a tag and receipt may be written and an envelop addressed at the same time.
Another object of the inventionisv to provide an invoice-sheet especially adapted to be used in connection with the manifoldingmachine for which application for Letters Patent was made by me December 2, 1899, Serial No. 738,943.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the gures.
Figure 1 is a .plan view of the unfolded invoice-sheet. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the sheet with the intermediate section folded upon the envelop-section. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the sheet fully folded; and Fig. 4 is a transverse section through a fully-folded sheet, the drawing being on an enlarged scale and the section being taken practically on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
The sheet is made, preferably,- of a translucent material, such as parchment-paper; but other material may be employed, and the sheet is divided by score-lines 10 and 11 or their equivalents into three sections A, B, and C. When the sheet is folded, the section A is the front sheet and is adapted to constitute a tag with memoranda, as it is to be secured to a package. The section Bis at that time the intermediate section and constitutes a duplicate of the tag and memoranda and is used as a receipt, while the section O serves as an envelop for a bill. The section B is to be signed by the receiver of goods acknowle edging the receipt of said goods. Y At the score-line 11, which separates the in termedi'ate section B from the envelop-section O, a cut 12 is made, which may be practically U or V shaped, and this cut 12 vis produced in the intermediate section B, as shown in Fig. 1, and forms a flap 13 at the upper edge of one member of the envelop-section C, preferably the front member, and this flap 13 is the sealing-Hap for the envelop and may bear the word Invoice or other word designate ing the character of the contents of the en# volop-section. I
The front face of the tag-section A is provided with panels 14, adapted to receive an address, and with panels 15, in which index and order numbers may be placed when desired. This section A is also provided with a panel 16, upon which the name of the firm, individual, or corporation from which the goods are purchased is to be written. This section A also contains a series of panels 17, in which the names of various articles of merchandise are printed or produced, and blank panels are located at each side of the series of printed panels, the said blank panels being designated as 18 and 19.
On the reverse face of the central section B, or that face which is the under face when the strip is straightened out, as shown in Fig. 1, an upper panel 14 is produced adapted to contain the address of the person to whom the goods are to be delivered, and side panels 15n are also made on this intermediate section adapted to contain index and order numbers or the like. Another panel 16a is produced on the intermediate section A, and the panel 16 is adapted to receive the name of the party from whom the merchandise was purchased, the name being a duplicate of that produced on' the panel 16 of the section A. The intermediate section B is also provided with central lower panels 17a, corresponding to the panels 17 of the section A, and these panels 95 17 a bear similar designations to the panels 17 .i Panels 18 and 19a are located at the sides of the panels 17a, the side panels being adapted to receive any data desired. l In the drawings one of the said panels is provided with the following printed 1natter-name1y Date, Delivered by, Bill, Remarks, Received byg but it will be understood that I do not confine myself to the matter above set forth.
At what is the front face of the envelopsection C when the strip is unfolded an upper panel 143 is produced, and side panels 15b adapted to receive one the address of the party ordering and the other index and o1'- der numbers, and the panels 14b and 15b occupy the same position on the envelop-section C as the panels 14, 15, 14, and 15 do upon the sections A and B. A central panel 1Gb is also provided on the envelop-section, corresponding to the panels 16 and 16a on the sections A and B, being adapted for the same purpose. The remaining portion ot' the front of the envelop-section, and the back, if sodesired, may `contain instructions, advertisements, or other matter of information or these portions of the envelop-section may be left blank.
In operation the section C is folded on the section B, as shown in Fig. 2, and then the two sections A and B are folded over upon the envelop-section, as illustrated in Fig. 3, and a strip of carbon or other transiter material is placed between the envelop-'section and the intermediate section, and the Writing is done with a hardpencil upon the front or bill section A, and said Writing will be duplicated upon all of the sections of the sheet.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Y An invoice-sheet, comprising an envelopsection having a central projecting iiap at its opening, a receiptsection connected with the envelop-section at the open end thereoiil at each side of said central flap, and a tag-section connectedwith the other or free end of the receipt-section, the three sections being of substantially the same length, and thereceipt-section having an addressing-panel on its back, While the envelop-section and tagsection have on their front facesaddressingpanels so located that when the sheet is folded, the three addressing-panels will be super-r posed, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof:l I have signed my name to this specification in the presence ot' two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES LOHRMAN.
