To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM N. WIN- FIELD, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Letter-Heads, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to letter-heads and refers more particularly to a new and improved construction of letter-head or the like in which the sheet is folded from the side.

Among the (ibjects of the invention are to provide a construction in which the sheet can be folded from the side and the address or other matter which is printed on one side of the sheet, can be read when the sheet is either folded or unfolded; to provide a construction in which the cut-away portion is so arranged that there will be practically no loss in stock in manufacturing the letterhead and the latter can be cut from a rectangular sheet; to provide a letter-head which can be readily cut from standard stock and economically manufactured; to so construct and arrange the sheet that if it is desired to use the same as a mailing card the latter will have the same advantages as the letter-head while further utilizing as a sealing flap, a portion which is formed in the operation of cutting the letter-head from the rectangular blank; and in general to -provide a new and improved letter-head or the like.

Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional view of the construction shown in Fig. 4 when folded.

Describing in detail the sheet shown 1n Figs. 1, 2 andB, A designates the blank from which the letter-head is cut. The blank is preferably of such size so that it can be severed into two letter-heads B and C. In manufacturing the blank it is however not cut on a straight line but one part is out along the line D and the other end along the line E, while the two lines of severation D and E are connected by an inclined line of severation F. To facilitate the cutting of the sheet the connection between the line of severation F and the lines D and E are curved at G and II respectively.

Where the severed portions or sheets B and C are to be used as letter-heads the end J is preferably severed on the line K so that the completed letter-head is of the form shown in Fig. 2. This permits the unfolded sheet to be lithographed or printed entirely on one side. The letter-head is then folded sidewise on the line L leaving exposed the name of the firm as indicated at M and a blank space N on the back of the sheet which when folded to the position shown in Fig. 8 forms the letter space for the sheet, while the name is also visible. Thus with the novel construction above described the single printing or lithographing on one side can be used for carrying advertising matter or other information, while at the same time there is printed or lithographed the name of the user, which 'name is visible both when the sheet is folded or unfolded.

Where it is desired to use the sheet as a mailing card, the construction remains the same except the flap J is not removed but is gummed as shown in Fig. 4: and can be utilized for holding the card in its folded position, as shown in cross section in Fig. 5. In both cases the fold is made from the side and the letter-head or mailing card can, if desired, be formed from a rectangular sheet.
