Description

J. P. ANDERSON.
"""HHIIIII do I 4W1. J nun I I a 13 H 12 MM I u I I Z1 /-ZI -27 jm z FEW My M a new Patented 0011.15, 1918.
J OHN P. ANDERSON, OF BALTIMOBE, MARYL J. GAENG, OF BALTIMORE, :1
,assrenon or ONE-HALF 'ro smou- DISPLAY-CABD HOLDER.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Join: P. ANDERSON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Card Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to advertising devices and the like, and has reference particularly to display card holders adapted to bear advertising matter, and to hold for display, a sample of the goods advertised, or other article.
The objectof the invention is to provide such a device which is of simple and inexpensive construction, easily set up and attractive in appearance.
To this end. the invention consists in a display card holder formed preferably of a single piece of material, such as cardboard, having a. front or display portion adapted to receive advertising matterand provided with an aperture to receive and support a sample of the goods advertised, or other article, and side portions suitably united at the rear and forming a support for the front portion to maintain it in a substantially upright position, all as I will proceed now to-explain and finally claim.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention, in the several figures of which, like parts are similarly designated,
'Figure 1 is a perspective view of the de-- vice;
Fig. 2 is a rear view;
Fig. 3 is a central, vertical section of a portion of the device, showing in dotted lines a sample of goods; and,
Fig. 4 is a plan View of the blank, which when properly folded and set up forms the complete device.
The front portion 1 has a laterally extended upper part 2, adapted to receive the name and other matter advertising the commodity offered for sale. The portion 1 is also provided with an opening 3, formed by cuts 44:, 55', 66, and 7 and by scoring or otherwise suitably providing for folding the material along the dotted lines 8-8 and 9+9 so that when the flapslO and 11 and 12 and 13 are folded back at substantially right angles to the lane of the front portion, the flap 10 will form in effect a shelf upon which the sample may rest, and the Specification of Letters Patent.
flaps 12 and 13 will form lateral supports therefor, all of the flaps frictionally engaging the sample through the inherent springiness of the material of which the device is made, to thereby hold the sample in proper position for display, as shown in Fig. 3.
Extendin from the sides of the front portion 1 are side portions 14 and 15, each of which is cut diagonally along the lower edge with respectto the straight bottom edge 16 of the front portion, so that when the device is set up it will have a slight backward slant to be the more easily viewed when set up for display. The side portion 14: is cut at 17 18, and 19 to provide a flap 20, and the side portion 15 is similarly ,cut at 21, 22, and 23 to form a flap 24, and these flaps are formed with V-shaped or other suitable notches 25vand 26, respectively,.so that when they are folded back upon the dotted lines 27 and 28, respectively, which are scored or otherwise suitably prepared for bending, and the side portions are bent back at right angles to the front portion along the lines 29 and 30, also scored or otherwise prepared for bending, the notches may be inte'rengaged with the complemental portions of the flaps 20 and 24, to thereby form a support for the front portion.
The lateral extensions of the part 2 of the front portion 1 are separated from the side portions bycuts 31 and 32.
The device may have its several parts shaped and decorated to produce representations of various articles of commerce as desired, and it is obvious that other details of construction may be altered without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of theappended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A display card holder comprising a formed of a single piece of material, com- Patented Get. 15, 1918. Application filed. March 8, 1917. Serial No. 15$,388.
prising a front portion, side portions extend- 'edges of said side portions being cut diagomg therefrom, said front portion provided nally for the purpose specified, the whole with an aperture having flaps adapted to forming a unitary structure. 10 support and f-riotionally hold an article, and In testimony whereof I have affixed my 5 flaps on said side portions provided with signature.
means for uniting them to hold said side portions in adjusted position, the bottom JOHNv P. ANDERSON.
