Claims.

This invention relates to a combined shipping and display container.

The primary object of this invention is the manufacture of such a container from a single blank adapted to be folded to secure the desired finished form, said blank wasting a minimum amount of material.

Briefly summarized, the invention consists of a double pocketed container which may be utilized as a closed shipping carton or for display purposes, the device being formed from a single blank of suitable material, such as cardboard or the like.

Referring to the accompanying drawings,

The container comprises two pockets, designated respectively by the letters A and B, each of said pockets being adapted to receive boxed merchandise or other articles as shown at C.

When in use as a display device, the pocket B rests upon a store counter in a horizontal position with its open end forward to display and permit the contents of the pocket B to be withdrawn horizontally. The pocket A rests upon the pocket B as shown, thus giving the pocket A a relatively vertical position permitting the contents thereof to be displayed and withdrawn in a vertical direction.

When the container is to be used for shipping purposes, the pocket A is folded so that its open end abuts the open end of pocket B as shown in Fig. 5.

The blank used to form the carton is best shown in Fig. 1. It comprises a portion 7, which is the back or rear wall of pocket A, such portion 7 having a side flap 8 and two

9 and 10. A further extension 11 of the portion '7 carries a tab 12. The extension 11 is integral with a long narrow portion 13 carrying a member 14 similar in shape to the extension 11, such member 14 being provided with a tab 15. Extensions or

walls and bottom of pocket A as hereinafter explained.

The portion 16 of the blank is the bottom and thus one main wall of pocket B. Wall 16 carries a side flap 17 and is integral with a side wall member 18 which in turn carries a tab 19. The portion 29 of the blank is another main wall and specifically the top wall of pocket B and carries member 21 and tab 22 similar to

11 and 14 the blank is cut away to form openings as shown at 26-26.

The portions l819-2l2223 and 24 are folded and assembled to form the sides and rear of pocket B as hereinafter explained.

The following is the method of folding the blank to assemble the device.

With the blank as shown in Fig. 1, the flap 8 is folded to the left along line 27 to a Vertical position, and member 7 is folded to the left on line 28, as best suggested in Fig. 4. Member 14 is now folded to the right on line 30 and member 15 folded forwardly on line 31. Flap 10 folds to a position at right angles to portion 7 along line 32 and behind tab 12. Flap 9 is now folded along line 33 forwardly to a right angle with 10.

The entire right hand portion of the blank shown elevated in Fig. 4 is now folded to the left on line 29, the flap 9 engaging the face of member 13, being removably held in place by

12 and 15. Flap 8 is now secured to member 14 by any suitable adhesive thus completing pocket A.

To form pocket B, flap 1'7 is folded to the left vertically on line 34, member 16 to the left on line 35, member 18 to the left on line 36. Portion 21 is folded to the right vertically on line 37 and secured to flap 17 by any suitable adhesive.

19 and 22 are now folded inwardly on lines 38-39. Flap 23 is bent inwardly on line 40 and inserted under the edge of member 16 between such edge and the

19 and 22, member 24 being bent inwardly on line 41 to permit such result.

The container is now in the form shown in Fig. 5. With the pockets filled the device can be used for shipping purposes, the edges of curved cuts 4445 being in engagement to close the opening between the closed pockets.

To utilize the container for display purposes the pocket B is bent along line 42 to the position shown in Figs. 2-3 and 6 and the pocket A folded on line 43 to the position shown in Figs. 2-3 and 6, the member 25 forming an easel portion and connection between the two pockets, and providing space for advertising, which may be printed upon the flat blank before folding.

Obviously all overlapped tabs may be secured together by adhesive if desired.

The construction shown provides a compact and attractive article particularly adapted to the display and shipping of the articles for which the container is designed. By forming the container from the single folded blank disclosed the manufacturing is simplified and the cost thereof minimized.

Having described my invention, what I claim is:

1. A display container in one form being generally rectangular and having two end walls, two side walls and two main walls, the container being severed in spaced relation to the end walls across one main wall and both side walls, said side walls each being severed from the other main wall from the first mentioned severances to a point short of the adjacent end wall, and said second mentioned main wall having parallel fold lines, one fold line intersecting each point and the other fold line being in alignment with the lines of severance of the side walls to provide first and second pockets with the second pocket resting on the first pocket, said fold lines defining between them an easel connecting portion extending from the top of the open end of the first pocket to the open end of the second pocket above the base of the latter.

2. A display container having a pocket open at the front, a pocket open at the top disposed at a right angle to the first mentioned pocket and having a front wall, and an easel portion extending'from the upper front edge of the first mentioned pocket to the upper front edge of the said front wall of the second mentioned pocket, the easel portion enabling folding of the container to and from a closed position wherein the open pocket and open top of the first and second mentioned pockets face each other and one pocket is a continuation of the other.

3. A display container formed from a blank having top, bottom, rear and side Wall portions folded into a pocket; a wall portion resting on said top wall, a front wall, rear wall, and side wall portions folded into a pocket; and an easel portion extending from the forward edge of the said top wall to the upper edge of said front wall, the container having fold lines in parallelism one at the junction of the easel portion and front wall, and the other fold line at the junction of the easel portion and said top wall enabling the container to be folded into a closed condition with one pocket forming a continuation of the other pocket.

A display container having a pocket open at the front, a pocket open at the top disposed at a right angle to the first mentioned pocket and having a front wall, and an easel portion extending from the upper front edge of the first mentioned pocket to the upper front edge of the said front wall of the second mentioned pocket, the easel portion enabling folding of the container to and from a closed position wherein the pockets face each other and one pocket is a continuation of the other pocket, said second mentioned pocket in the blank form having side walls connected to said front wall and unconnected to the easel portion, one side edge of one side wall being initially free, a rear wall connected to the other side wall having one side edge initially free, a bottom wall connected to said rear wall, the portions of the second mentioned pocket being foldable so that the initially free side edge of the rear wall extends to the first mentioned initially free side edge, and the bottom wall extends to the said front wall.

5. A display container having a pocket open at the front, a pocket open at the top disposed at a right angle to the first mentioned pocket and having a front wall, and an easel portion extending from the upper front edge of the first mentioned pocket to the upper front edge of the said front wall of the second mentioned pocket, the easel portion enabling folding of the container to and from a closed position wherein the pockets face each other and one pocket is a continuation of the other pocket, said second mentioned pocket in the blank form having side walls connected to said front wall and unconnected to the easel portion, one side edge of one side wall being initially free, a rear Wall connected to the other side Wall having one side edge initially free, a bottom wall connected to said rear wall, a flap connected to the bottom wall on the opposite edge to the rear wall, a tab connected to each side wall, the portions of the second mentioned pocket being foldable so that the initially free side edge of the rear wall extends to the first mentioned initially free side edge, the flap engages the said front wall and said tabs extend between said rear wall and fiap and against said bottom wall.
