Description

Patented Bee. l2,` i922.,

iniziare RAYMOND G. ROSS,v OF GOLDENDALE, VASHlNGTON,
STICKPIN.
Application filed March 8, 1922. Serial No. 542,143.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, RAYMOND O. Ross, a
citizen of the United States, residing aty Groldendale7 in the county or' Klickitat and State of l/Vashington, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Sticlrpins, Oli which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stick pins and has `for its Object the production of a simple and eliicient stick pin which may be conveniently and efficiently attached to a bow tie, or a tie Of any other character, so as to prevent the stick pin Vfrom becoming accidentally detached 'from the tie.
Another object oit this invention is the production O' a stick pin, which is provided with a flat spring body capable Oi being contracted while inserting the pin in the tie and which will automatically spring Outwardly to efficiently loci( the stick pin in engagement with the tie.
Other Objects and advantages of the present invention will appear throughoutv the following specification and claim.
ln the draii'ings:
Figure l is a front elevation of the stick pin shown attached to the bow. tie.
Figure 2 is a. front elevation et' the stick pin showing the same attached to a four-inliand tie.
Figure 3 is a perspective view or" the sticlr pin.
Figure is a top plan View oi' the pina and Figure is a rear elevation oi the pin;
By referring' to the drawings it will be seen that 1 designates the body of the pin which is preferably i'orined O a 'flat spring structure tapering fromv the center toward each end thereof and having its Outer eX- tremities 2 bent slightly outwardly as clearly illustrated in Figures 3 and 4 of the drawings. rllhis flat spring body is preferably formed of a bowed structure, being bowed outwardl i at the center thereof and having inwardly extending' ends, the outer extrenib' ties Ol? which are turned outwardly as above stated and as illustrated in the drawings and indicated by the numeral 2. This body v l muy be preferably gold plated or plated in any suitable Or desired manner and may be rovided with a suitable setting Any suitable or desired design may be employed with respect'to the setting or the formation O the body without departingv from the spirit of the invention.
as indicated at 5, the Outer ends Or points 6 O'l the piercing points 4 being` spaced for ay considerable distance from the inner face of the extremities QO the body l as clearly shown in Figure 4.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the bow or body l. inay be" brought into engagement with a necktie O''suitable structure and the ends Of the body may be sprung inwardly to 'the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 4 or compressed to the position shown in dottedlines -in Figure 4, thereby bringing the piercing points 4 to ward each other. rlhe extremities or pointedends 6 oit the piercingpoints 4 may then be inserted in the body of the tie and as soon as the body l is released from the lin-- gers Or hands of the' Operator, the spring nature or' the body will cause the respective ends of 4the body to spring apart, thereby forcing the piercing points 4 firmly into the tie and holding the body 1in a proper and set position with respect tO thel tie, thereby preventing the sticlr pin 'from becoming accidentally disengaged from the tieOr other support Ato which the stick pin is attached. lt should be understood that certain detailed changes in the mechanical construction may be 'employed without departing from the spirit of the invention .so long as these changes fall vwithin the scope of the appended claim.
Having fully described the invention what is claimed is:
As a new article of manufacture, a stick pin comprisingy a iiat spring` body formed Ot a bow formation and having itsV outer eX- tremities slightly turned outwardly, the body portion being substantially rigid intermediate the ends and resilient On both vi y .Piercing points 4 are solderedyor other- 'wise secured to theinnerviace of the body` l ends and diainetricall Op'iosed Jiercino 7 il an points soldered on the inner faceV near the ends Ott said body portion.
ln testimony whereof l aii; my signature in presence'oit two witnesses.
BAYMUNB O. ROSS.
