Description

S. MONCRIEF.
BROOM HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED APR.I9,19I7.

BRooiYLHoLnnn.
To all whom it may. concern:
Be it known that I, SHERMAN- Monomer, a citizen of the United States, residing at Center Junction, State of Iowa,-have invented certain; useful Improvements in] Broom-Holders, .of, which the following is a specification, refer-,
ence being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
known as buckles, buttons andclasps and more particularly.relatestoa spring holder for the handles of brooms, tools and other objects or articlesscapable pended by their handles.
As the primary aim and object the present invention resides in the provision of novel means formed on the'body of the holder and partly about the opposed resilient coils for cooperating with a fastening device in effectively anchoring the holder in position and for causing the resilient coils to move outwardly and at approximately right angles to the body when a handle is inserted between the coils for spreading them, consequently insuring an efiective engagement of the coils with handles of various diameters.
Among the other aims and objects of the present invention may be .recited the provision of a .device of the character described with a view to compactness, and in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple, the cost of production low and the efliciency high.
Other objects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of this invention will be more readily apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims, forming a part of this specification.
The preferred embodiment of the present invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective showing a broom handle supported therein.
Fig. 2 is a perspective looking toward the rear surface of the device.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken through the device when it is attached to a support, and r Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of the invention.-

ployed in all of the above describedviews,
to indicate corresponding parts.
. Referring now, more particularly, to the accompanying-drawings there is provided a holder formed from, a single strip of resilient metal including a body 1 the respective ends of which are coiled themselvesto provide opposed and spaced resilient handle engaging coils 2. The body. is also provided centrally thereof and inter-v. s with a fastening. device re-' mediate the coi ceiving opening 3. I =With a viewjtoward' providing the improved means for facilitating the anchoring of the holderv and forcausing; the coils .to.
therebetween, spaced longitudinally extend ing ribs 4 are formed on the rear surface of the body adjacent the marginal edges, said.
ribs also extending partially about the outer surface of the coils 2 and terminating at points approximately one-eighth of the distance around the coils so that when a broom handle 5 or the like is inserted between the coils they will be caused to move outwardly fromthe body and at right angles thereto while they are being spread by the broom handle. As indicated in the drawings the ribs are preferably marginal edges of the resilient strip. By the arrangement of the ribs it will be appreciated that the coils are now capable of effectively receiving and supporting in a suspended position various sized handles of brooms and similar articles.
Cooperating with the ribs is a fastening device which may be and preferably is a screw 6 said screw being insertible throu h the opening 3 and engageable with a suitable support 7 so as to clamp the ribs into biting engagement with the said support, consequently enabling them to cooperate with the single fastening device in preventing accidental movement of the holder, thus insuring an effective securing of the holder in position.
In view of the foregoing description it is thought that a detailed description of the operation of the invention is entirely unnecessary. Likewise it is believed that the advantages of the invention are readily apparent.
It will be understood that the foregoing description and accompanying drawings comprehend only the general and preferred embodiment of this invention and that variinwardly upon provided by bending the Copied or this patent may be attained. ten
ous minor changes in detail of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made Within the scope of the appended claims and without sacrificing any of the, advantages of this invention.
Having thus fully described this invention, what is claimed is:
1. A broom holder formed from a single. strip of resilient metal including a body, op.- posed handle engaging coils formed on the respective extremities of the" body, spaced longitudinally extending ribs formed on the rear surface of the body adjacent the. marginal edges thereof and also formed on and extending partially about the outer surfaces of the coils and terminating at points approximately one-eighth of the distance around the coils whereby to cause the coils to move outwardly from the body when a handle is inserted between the coils so as to spread them.
2. A; broom holder including a body formed from a single strip of resilient metal and having a central opening therein, spaced handle engaging coils formed integral with .4
a handle is inserted between the coils to spread them the coils will be moved outwardly from the body and at substantially right angles thereto, and a fastening device engageable with the opening and with a suitable support for forcing the ribs on the body into biting engagement with a support and cooperating with the ribs for anchoring the holderin a substantially rigid position.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
