GARMENT rasrnnnn.
Application filed April 23,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Wrrmoneriex J. STARN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Doylestown, in the county of Wayne and State of Ohio, have invented anew and useful Garment Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a separable fastener, adapted to be used on garments and elsewhere, and the invention aims to provide a fastener, the constituent members of which may be separated readily, novel means being provided for attaching the members of the fastener to the parts whereon they are mounted.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departingfrom the spirit of the invention.
, In the accompanying drawings 2-- Figure 1 shows in plan, a piece of material carrying one member of the fastener; Figure 2 shows in plan, a piece of material carrying the other member of the fastener; Figure 3 is a plan wherein the members of the fastener are interengaged; Figure t is a section taken approximately on the line tl of Figure 3; Figure 5 is a cross section taken through one disk, approximately on theline 55 of Figure 2; and Figure 6 is a slight modification.
Referring to Figures 2 and 1, one member of the fastener includes a main disk 1 and an auxiliary disk 7, between which, the material 6 is located. The main disk 1 has prongs 2 extended through the material 6 and clinched on the edge of the auxiliary disk T. The disks 1 and 7 are supplied with regi tering slots 3. At one end of the slots 3, the disks 1 and 7 are struck outwardly in one direction, to form a bridge 1. The disks 1 and 7 are struck inwardly, in an opposite direction, on each side of the slots 3 to form seats 5. The bridge on one disk registers Specification of Letters Patent.

with the bridge of the other disk, the seats in .one disk register with the seats in the otherdisk, "and the slots in the disks are likewise in registration. I 7
i l, slot 7" is formed in the material 6, in alineinent with the slots 3 of the disks 1 and 7.
I The other member of the fastener includes a main disk 8 and an auxiliary disk 9, the material 10 being located between the disks 8 and 9. The disk 8 has prongs 11 passing through the material 10 and clinched on the disk 9. The disk 8 is provided with a neck 12 carrying a transverse head 14:. The neck 12 has an angle or offset 15, the construction being such that the disk 8 and the head 14 are located in spaced parallel planes.
in practicaloperation, the head 14 is disposed parallel to the slots 3 and is passed therethrough. When the head let is disposed at right angles to the slots 8, as shown in Figure 3, the ends of the head being received in the seats 5 of the main disk 1, the neck being located beneath the bridge t of the auxiliary disk 7 The construction of the device is such that, the fastener may be connected anddisconnected readily, at the will of an operator, they will not be likely to be disconnected accidentally.
In the modification shown in Figure 6, the disk 8 of Figure 1 is dispensed with, its place being taken by a wire frame 16 carrying a buckle 17 and including parallel arms 18 defining a neck, like the part 12, the arms 18 being connected by a loop-shaped head 19, corresponding to the part ll. The structure shown in Figure 6 is adapted to be used with a member of the kind depicted in Figure 2 and hereinbefore described.
I claim 1. A separable fastener comprising disks having slots, each disk being distorted in one direction to form a bridge at the end of the slot, and being distorted in an opposite direction to form seats at the sides of the slots, the slots being in registration, the bridges being in registration, and the seats being in registration; and a member embodying a neck and a head, the neck being received in the bridge of one disk, and the head being received in the seats of the other disk, the head being insertable by way of the slots.
2. A separable fastener comprising a member composed of disks having slots, each disk although the members of being distorted in one direction to for-m n bridge at the end of the slot openingin one direction, and being distorted in an opposite direction to form a seat at the siderot the bridge,the:s1ots being in registration,- the bridges being in registration, and the seats beingin registration, means for connecting the disks, and acooperating member lncluding a neck and an ofiset head; the neck being received in the-bridgeof one disk and the head being received-in the seat of the other disk andbeing insertable thereintoby way of the slots whereby the said neck and head are located one on one face of said disk and the 15 other-onthe other face. slot opening in a direction opposite the.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aiiixed my slgnziture 1n the presence of two Witnesses.
