Be it known that 1, CHARLES ToLMIn MAssoN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of the town of Wood Bay, in the Province of Manitoba and Dominion. of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVatch Pockets for Overalls, W'orking Shirts, and the like, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in watch pockets for overalls, working shirts and the like, and the objects of the invention are to provide a simple and effective device by which a watch may be retained in position on a bib overall, combination overall, smock, coat or shirt, and which will be retained in such position that it may be readily available for observation but will be kept out of the way of the wearer of the overall or the like and not interfere with his movements.

Further objects are generally to improve and simplify the construction of the pocket to better adapt it to perform the functions required of it.

It consists essentially of the improved construction hereinafter described in detail in the accompanying specification and draw ings.

In the drawings:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a bib overall having my invention applied thereto.

Figure 3 is a sectional view along the line y-y, Figure 1.

In the drawings, like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Referring to the drawings:

A indicates the overall which may be of any suitable or convenient type; that illustrated being a bib overall having a bib 10. It will be understood, however, that the invention may be applied to any form of overall, combination overall, smock coat or shirt.

11 indicates the pocket which is more conveniently located in the middle of the bib above the waist-line as in this position it is high enough to be out of the way and not likely to be struck when the wearer is forking, shovelling or the like, and is yet beneath the ribs in case of pressure.

The pocket- 11 is oblong in shape and is provided with an opening 12 at the bottom which will permit any dirt or dust in the pocket to readily escape. The pocket is also formed with an opening 13 at one side through which the watch may be inserted and inspected.

B indicates the watch, which is designed to be retained in the pocket by a retaining member or strip 14 preferably of textile material, secured at the lower end to the bottom of the pocket and having a suitable button-hole and designed to be buttoned over a button 15 located in the pocket towards the upper end thereof.

To retain the chain of the watch in position, (should a chain be attached thereto), two buttonholes 16 and 17 are provided on the bib diagonally arranged with respect to each other, the chain being designed to be threaded from the watch inwardly through the buttonhole l6 and having its end brought outwardly through the buttonhole 17.

It will be seen that, when it is desired to observe the time, it is only necessary to run the watch up on the retaining member 11 and inspect the same through the opening 13 or through the top of the pocket.

As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention within the scope of the claims, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. The combination with a garment of the character described, of a watch pocket and a retaining member in the pocket secured at one end to the garment and designed to extend through the ring on a watch, having its opposite end releasably connected to the garment, the said pocket being formed with an opening in the side thereof, and the said garment being formed with diagonally arranged buttonholes designed to support the watch chain.
