Description

1. PATTERSONJRQ HOSE SUPPORTER. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 5. 1921.
1,416,866. 2 Patented May23, 1922.
I "CA entries ll as:
JOHN PATTERSON, JR., 635 ELDER-330T, EliKiPLEIND.
I-IOSE SUPPOBIZEB.
Application filed March 5, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN PA'rrnRsoN, Jr, of The Scotch House, 21 Wellington Street, Aldershot, in the county of Hants, England. a British subject, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose Supporters, of which the following is a specifica tion.
This invention relates to sock and stocking suspenders or the like and has for its object to provide greater resiliency in use and an improved method of connecting together some of the parts.
In the specification accompanying my prior British Letters Patent No. 5313 of 1909 are described braces for personal wear provided with a series of metal springs arranged to lie on and act in combination with a backing of elastic material, the springs being provided with hooked ends adapted to engage frames provided with recesses or with holes.
According to the present invention sock and stocking suspenders or the like are pro vided with one or more metal springs arranged to lie on and act in combination with a backing of elastic material, said elastic material being attached at its one end to a metal frame constituting one member of a gripping device and being secured at its other end, together with the looped or folded back end of a thickness of supporting material between two thicknesses of supporting material.
In the accompanying drawings which show one form of the invention as applied to a mans sock suspender. Figure 1 is a perspective front view and Figure 2 is a section on the line 22, Figure l.
The suspender is provided with a well known form of gripping device consisting of an india rubber plate a formed near one end with a stud b and near the other end with a slot 0. and a stamped metal frame (Z of key-hole formation with which the stud 7; co-operates. The frame (Z is formed at its upper end with an eye 6 which coincides sub stantially with the slot 0, whilst pivoted to the eye 6 by a bent over tongue 7 is a second eye g the upper member of which is bent to box like form as at 71 and adapted to receive the ends of coiled springs 7' held in place by a cover plate 70 having an inturned flange Specification of Letters Patent.

an. adapted to lie between adjacent convolutions of the springs 7'. said cover plate 0 being held to the box like part it by bent over tongues 92.. The other ends of the springs j are similarly held to the lower member of an eye 0.
One end of a length of elastic material 7) is passed through the slot 0 and the eye 6, back through the eye g and is then sewn to itself as at g. The usual pad r by which the garter portion a is united to the gripping de ice is composed of two thicknesses of material 1' and r (Figure 2) the lower end of the thickness r being formed as a tongue 1' which after being passed through the eye 0 is folded back to lie, together with the upper end of the elastic material 3), between the two thicknesses r and W and the four thicknesses of material are united by a single row of stitches as at 25, thus greatly facilitating the assembling of the parts.
Ifdesired a single fiat-coiled spring may be substituted for the plurality of springs j and the attachment of the spring or springs to the other portions of the device may be varied as desired. For instance if the eves and o be made of wire they may be corrugated to position the hooked ends of the springs and when made of stamped metal they may be pierced or notched.
The provision of the combined springs and backing of elastic material make the device very resilient in use whilst the method of uniting the resilient fitting to the remainder of the Suspender facilitates the assembling of the parts and thus reduces the cost of manufacture.
I claim z- 1. A hose supporter comprising a pad formed of a plurality of superposed layers of material. the upper layer provided with a looped end. resilient spring means attached to the looped endx backing of elastic material. adjacent said spring means and se cured to said pad and a gripping device secured to said spring means and elastic backing.
2. A hose supporter comprising a pad formed of a plurality of superposed layers of material. the upper layer provided with a looped end, spring means secured to said looped end. a backing of elastic material adjacent said spring means and secured beto said [001% a backing of elastic material. adjacent said spring means, a gripping device secured to said spring means and back- 10 ing, and means to secure together said looped end, said backing and the lower layer of said pad.
