WITNESS:
STATES i JOHN LUNDEEN, 0F PORTLAND, OREGON.
BED CLOTHES CLAMP.
Application filed May 17,
To all whom it may concern 7 Be it known that I, JonN LUNDEEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bedclothes Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for holding bed clothes in position upon the bed, the principal object of the invention being to provide clamping means for engaging the bed clothes and so arranged that they can be easily and quickly moved from operative to inoperative position or vice versa.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the device can be easily and quickly attached to a bedstead.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view showing the invention in use upon a bedstead.
Figure 2 is an enlarged front view of the device itself.
Figure 3 is a similar view of the rear of the device.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figures 5 and 6 are detail views.
In these views 1 indicates the frame of the device which consists of the bottom bar, the top bar 3 and the end connecting bars l. This frame is detachably connected with the bed posts at the foot of the bed by means of the clamps 5 connected with the side bars of the frame and engaging the posts 6 of the bed. An angle bar 7 is connected with the top bar 3 by the toggle links 8 and a flat bar 9 is movably connected with the bar 7 by the bolts 10 which are slidably arranged in the holes in the bar 7. Coil springs 11 are placed on said bolts and tend to hold the bars 7 and 9 in spaced relation. The ends of the bar 7 are bent over to form slideways 12 which engage the endbars at. The toggle links are provided with stops 13 which per- .nit the'links to be forced inwardly to an Specification of Letters Patent. Patented lllaty 16, 31922,
1921. Serial No. 470,294.
extent sufiicient to hold them in position with the bars 7 and 9 in lowered position with the bar 9 clamping the bed clothes between itself and the bottom bar of the frame. A spring latch member 14L is provided for holding the parts in raised position when not in use or when placed in the closing position.
It will thus be seen that the device can be easily and quickly attached to a bedstead and when the toggle levers are pushed downwardly the device will clamp the clothes and thus prevent them from falling 0H the bed. IVhen the device is not being used it is simply moved upwardly until the spring latch engages the bar 7 which will hold the parts in raised position.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invent-ion will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising a frame having a bottom bar, a clamping bar for cooperating with the bottom bar of the frame a slidable bar, means for yieldingly connecting the same with the clamping bar and toggle levers connecting the sliding bar with the top of the frame.
2. A device of the class described comprising a frame having a bottom bar, means for detachably connecting the same with the bedstead, a clamping bar for cooperating with the bottom bar of the frame, a slidable member connected with the clamping bar and toggle levers connecting the slidable member with a part of the frame.
3. A device of the class described comprising a frame having a bottom bar, means for detachably connecting the same with a bedstead, a clamping bar for cooperating with the bottom bar of the frame, a bar slidably mounted in the frame, bolts slidablv connecting the clamping bar with the sliding bar, spring means for holding the said bars in spaced relation. toggle links connecting the sliding bar with a part of the frame and a latch member for holding the parts in raised position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOHN LUNDEEN.
