To all whom 'it 'may concern:

Be it known that l, JOHN Giannini., citizen of Hungary, and resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful mprovements in Convertible Window-Cleaners Stands, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a convertible window cleaners stand which may be secured to the window frame exterioriy to the window when the latter is to be washed, and may be converted into a chair at other times.

The invention has for an object to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this sort which may be readily secured to or detached from the window frame and will provide a convenient standing place for the person washing the window, and also adequately guard such person against falling.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims 1n which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Fig. 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my improved stand in position on a window.

Fig. 2 is an elevation of the lower portion thereof, viewed as indicated by the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a front view of the device as arranged to form a chair.

Fig. 4L is a side view thereof.

Fig. 5 is a fragmentary horizontal section showing the means employed for clamping the stand to the window frame.

As here embodied my improved device comprises an open topped box-like member, indicated generally at 10. This member preferably consists of a frame made up of the rectangular bottom frame element 11, the posts 12 extending upwardly from the corners thereof, and a rail element 13 eX- tending around three sides thereof at the top. T0 this. frame is secured a solid floor 14 and a series of wire panels comprising end panels 15, and side panels 16 and 17 respectively, the panels and 16 being rigidly secured to t-he frame, while the panel 17 is removable as will be later set forth, this panel being located on the outer side of the frame, along which the rail 13 does not Specification of Letters Patent.

extend. The posts 12 on this side of the frame are vertically grooved on their inner faces as at 18 to slidably receive the frame 17 of the panel 17, which is removed from this position when the device is converted into a chair. y

This box-like member 10 forms-the main body of my improved stand and is adapted to be secured on the window frame as follows: Upon opposite ends of the stand the rail element 13 is formed with extensions 2O which project over and rest upon the sill 21 of the window. These extensions are longitudinally slotted as at 22V to receive pins 23 carried by rigid arms 24 projecting from the upper corners of a rectangular clamp member 25 whichV is adapted to engage the inside of the window sill. These arms 2d project over the sill 21 adjacent tothe rail extensions which they overlap, the overlapping portions of the arms 24 and rail extensions 20 being provided with the pins'23 and slots 22 just referred to.

The top rail 25 of the clamp member 25 is preferably formed between its ends with an outwardly projected offset 26 with which the clamping means is engaged. This clamping means comprises -a horizontal screw 27 swiveled, as indicated-at 28, in the offset 26 and engaging in an interiorly threaded sleeve 29 fixed in the rail element, this screw having a head 30in which is a cross pin 31 for turning purposes.

To form a guard for the person standing on the floor 14C I hinge to the tops of the grooved posts 12, as at 35, a U-shaped frame 36 whose legs 36 aline with the posts 12 and are formed with grooves such as 37 alining with the grooves 18 in the latter. This frame 36 is braced by the sectional tie members 38 connected at opposite ends to the rail element 13 and the top of the frame. These tie members 38 are formed of two bars which engage one another through the medium of pins such as 40 in one bar engaging inV longitudinal slots such as 41 in the other bar. This construction enables the guard frame to be folded down on the rail 13.

During such times as it is not in use for washing windows the. device is adapted for use as a chair, the parts being then arranged ByY Y tightening up the screw 27 the members 10 as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. To convert the device from a stand into a chair, the device is arranged with the clamp member resting on the floor, the rail 13 and frame `11 lying in vertical planes, while the posts 12 are horizontal, the panel 16 providing a seat. its edges being held in the grooves 37. The guard :frame is swung downwardly to be along' the rail 13, the tie members 38 buo-` kling to allow of this movement as will be understood. The frame element 11 has a pair of legs 43 hinged to opposite end parte thereof and which are normally held in posi.- vtion lying alongthe same by a hook 44.

A window cleaners stand comprising a box-like member, horizontal extensions from the top of said member adapted to rest on the window sill, a clamp :frame adapted to engage the window sill, said clamp frame having Vforward projections from its upper corners said projections having slot and pin connections with the said horizontal eXtensions, said clamp frame having also a orwardly projected offset between itsends engaging over the window sill, Vand a clamp Y screw engaging in said offset and in the said box-like member. 4. In a window cleaners stand,a box-like member, a clamp frame for securing the said member to` the window` frame, said box-like member having the outer side thereof removable, a guard frame hinged to said boxlikeY member, a pair `of legs hinged tosaid boX-like member and opposed to said guard guard frameV and legs being adapted to support the device in position forming a chair.
