Application filed July 20, 1923. Serial Hoyt-152,765.
tress in an upwardly inclined position and also the bed clothes on the bed, sothat they will not exert a pull on the feet of the. occupant of the bed.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, having a pair ofend blocks arranged in spaced parallel relation and connected by a plurality of spaced parallel strip members, one side of said end blocks being inclined, so that it will have a cross section of trapezoidal form, and when, positioned on the spring and adjacent the foot end of the bed, the inclined wall portion thereof-will support the lower end of the mattress in an inclined position, in order to provide a comfortable rest for the feet of an occupant of the bed, and at the same time support the covers thereon, so that they will not hang or pull on said occupants feet, but will provide a space between the covers and the mattress for the occupants feet, which will make the bed more comfortable.
The invention includesother objects and improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of the parts, which are more particularly pointed out in the fol-.
lowing description and claim directed to the preferred form of the invention, it being understood however, that various changes in the size, form, and construction and arrangement of these parts may be made, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as described and claimed.
In the drawing, forming apart of this application:
Figure l is a perspective view of the device.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of an end portion from below.
Figure 3 is an end elevation.
Figure 4 is a sectional view through the foot portion of the bed, showing the device in place.
1 indicates end blocks, which are .of trapezoidal section or form, in which the upper and lower sides are parallel, one connecting side wall indicated at 2 being vertical, and the other side wall 3 .being inclined, for
' a purpose which will presently appear. The
edges of these end blocks 1 have a plurality of strips 4 secured thereto, in spaced relation, for mounting said end blocks in parallel spaced relation at the. end portions of the. strip. If desired, a cover 5, such as illus trated in Figure 2 may beprovided for the device, in order to prevent 111g dust and dirt. I w 7 Figure at illustrates the manner of insertthe same co1lecting the device above described at the foot" of a bed, the vertical side 2 of the end blocks being directed adjacent and against the foot portion of the bed, while the 'in- I clined-sides 3 receives the lower end of the I mattress and directs the sa-m'e'upwardly in inclined relation with respect to the remaining portion of the mattress, in order to provide a support for the covers 6 on the bed, softhat a pocket 7 will be formed between the covers and the inclined end portion of the mattress for the feet of the occupant of the bed, in a manner that the covers will hang over the feet and not exert a pull or tension thereon, as is usual, where the end of the mattress lies on the springs.
This device further forms a support for the feet, through holding the mattress in inclined relation and also lessens the liklihood of the covers being'pulled out from under the end of the mattress under the end of the bed, as is usual in the use of a mattress in the ordinary mamier, where it lies in a horizontal plane on the spring. In
this way, it will be seen that the bed covers 6 hangs from thefree edge of the mattress which is above the major portion thereof, in order to providethe' pocket 7 for the feet of. an occupant, so that a comfortable arrangement of the cover results and in which the covers hang downwardly over the top of the feet.
' It will thus be seen that a novel device of relatively simple construction has been provided, for increasing the comforts of a bed by properly supporting the covers over the feet of an occupant. I
What is claimed is: 7
Means for supporting a mattress at the foot end of a bed; in inclined. relation to the foot portion of the bed, for supporting the bed covers in a manner that said covers will hang over the feet of an occupant of 10 the bed; comprising a supporting memberhaving end members of trapezoidal form arranged 1n spaced parallel relation, and a plurality of spaced parallel strip members secured to said end members whereby the supporting member may be positioned adjacent the foot portion of the bed on the spring with an inclined face to receive and support the end of the mattress.
