The present invention relates to an operation table to hold small pigs, lambs, and the like for castration, marking, ringing, etc., and is designed to be supported on the side of any pen or the like.

An important object of the invention resides in the provision of a table of this nature which is comparatively simple in its construction, strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture, thoroughly efiicient and reliable in use and operation, easy to manipulate, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

lteferring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a plate or table top preferably rectangular in formation and having a pair of spaced parallel coextensive cleats 6 arran d thereon so that the animal may be held t erein and also a third spaced parallel cleat 7 for holding tools, rings and the like from rolling on the table.

Triangular shaped brackets 8 depend from the top 5 and have hook extensions 9 at their tops extending rearwardly from the top 5 to hook over the edge of a side of a pen while the remaining port-ions of the bracket engage the lower outer portions thereof as is clearly indicated in Figure 2. A shank 11 is slidable through opening 12 in the rear portion of the plate 5 and is formed with a cross head 14 at the top thereof having curved clamp arms 15 extending laterally and forwardly therefrom.

A portion of the intermediate front edge of the shank 11 is formed with a series of ratchet teeth 16. The shank 11 extends through opening 17 in plate 18 formed on a rod 19 inclining downwardly and rearwardly from the bottom of the plate 5. The forward edge of the opening 17 is beveled to engage with the teeth 16. The plate 18 is braced by a U-shaped brace 21, the bottom portion of which is fixed to the plate 18 and the upper ends of which are fixed under the top 5. At the bottom of the shank there is a lateral foot piece 23. A spring 24 is engaged with the lower portion of the shank and with the bottom forward portion of the top 5 so as to urge the lower portion of the shank forwardly to engage the teeth 16 with the beveled front edge of the opening 17.

Thus it will be seen that an animal placed on the table top may be held in position by placing the foot on the foot piece 23 so as to force the shank downwardly thereby causing the arms 15 to clamp over the animal and theratchet teeth 16 will hold the clamping structure in the properadjusting position. To release the clamping structure it is only necessary to place the foot on the foot piece 23 and swing it rearwardly.

It is thought that the operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a detailed description thereof.

The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the inventionand the above description.

It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of. the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having'thus described by invention, what I claim as new is:

1. An operation table for animals co1nprising a table top, means for supporting the table top, said table top being formed with an opening, a shank slidable through the opening, clamp arms on the upper portion of the shank, a plate under the top, means for supporting the plate under the top, said plate having an opening through which the shank is sliolable, said shank having ratchet teeth to engage with an edge of the opening in the plate, a spring having one end connected with a lower part of the shank and its other end connected with the front part of the table top whereby the spring will urge the shank to a position in engagement with the edge of the plate.

2. An operation table for animals comprising a table top, means for supporting the table top, said table top being formed with an opening, a shank slidable through the opening, clamp arms on the upper portion of the shank, a plate under the top, means for supporting the plate under the top, said plate having an opening through which the shank is slidable, said shank having ratchet teeth to engage with an edge of the opening in the plate, a spring having one end connected with a lower part of the shank and its other end connected with the front part of the table top whereby the spring will urge the shank to a position in engagement with the edge of the plate, spaced parallel coextensive cleats mounted on top of the table top with the space between the cleats located under the clamping arms whereby the cleats will cooperate with the clamping arms to hold an animal against movement on the table top.

8. An operation table for animals comprising a table top, means for supporting the table top, said table top being formed with an opening, a shank slidable through the opening, clamp arms on the upper portion of the shank, a plate under the top, means for supporting the plate under the top, said plate having an opening through which the shank is slidable, said shank having ratchet teeth to engage with an edge of the opening in the plate, a spring connected with the lower part of the shank and with the front part of the table top whereby the spring will tend to move the shank to a position in engagement with the edge of the plate, spaced parallel coextensive cleats mounted on top of the table top the space between said cleats being located under the clamping arms and acting with said arms to hold an animal against movement on the table top, said means for supporting the table top comprising triangular shaped brackets depending from the table top and having rearwardly disposed hook extensions at the top thereof.
