with a fixed jaw umrsn STATES PATET OFFICE;
\VEE'NGH.
Application filed July 6, 1920. Serial No.
'1'0 all ic/wni it may concern:
Be it known that I, Finn) Timur-son, a citizen of the United States. residing at Oakland. in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in av Wrench. of which the following is av specification.
This invention relates to il wrench and has for its principal object the production of adevice of this nature which is provided and a movable jaw. said movable jaw being provided with operating means so that same may he firmly held in engagement with the object upon which it is desired to use the wrench.
Another ohject of the invention is to generally improve upon wrenches of this character by providing a device which will be extremely simple, durable and inexpensive in construction. one which is eiiicient and reliahle in operation, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Wit-h theso and numerous other ohjccts in view the invention resides in certain novel features of construction. the comhination and arrangement of parts as will he hereinai'te-r fully described and claimed.
in the accompanying drawing:-
Figure 1 is a. vertical longitudinal section taken thron h the wrench.
Figure 2 IS a fragmentary side elevation of the upper portion of the wrench.
Figure, 3 is a. horizontal section taken above/the movable jaw of a. modified form of the. wrench, and s Figure, i is a fragmentary side elevation of this modification showing portions thereof in section.
llcl'crring, to the ncconipaIrving drawinghy numerals it will he seen that t designates the handle which is proridcd n'it'h the fixed jaw 2 having the teeth 3 upon its lace which may he of any preferred construction. iif'hc lower portion of the handle is providcd with the horcv -3- lor receiving the spiral shank 5 which comprises tho shank :3 and the threaded portion 7. Tho threaded portion 7 is of substantially the same size as the vertical slot 8 which receives the reduced portion of the. slidahle jaw Ill. The outer face-of this reduced portion 5) is provided with threads which mesh wii'h the threaded )ortion oi the spiral screw 5. in order to hold the slidshls jaw in engagement with Specification of Letters Patent.
the threads I have provided a plurality of itshaped hands 11 which fit around the handle 1 and are fixedly attached to the sliding jaw it) hy any suitable means such as rivets 12. l pon the sliding jaw 10 I have mounted the locking jaw 13 which is provided with tho depending ears 14 which are in rockahle engagement with the sliding PM!" by means of order to hold the inner portion of the jaw in a raised position if have provided the leaf spring 16 which is held in place by means of" the rivet 7.
In order to hold tho spiral screw 5 the bore 4 l have providod at the top thereof a horn 18 which fits within soeliet provided in the block 19. This block 19 is held within the fixed jaw or the, upper portion of the handle by means of the pin'Qd as is shown in Figure l of the drawing.
li referring? to Figures and lof the drawing it will he seen that the modification consists of tho handle 1 and the fixed jaw 2. This fixed jaw. however. is not provided with teeth hut has the smooth face 3-. slidin jaw i is similar in construction to that already dcscrihcd being: held in )hice h the handle ll hot is not provided with the locking jaw as in the shore described modification. it will therefore he seen that this modification is especially adapted for grippin nuts while the ahore modification is used for gripping pipes and the like.
l'pou the lower end of the. spiral screw 5 in' hoth modifications l have provided a. knob :21 which has the outer surfacethereof frictionally formed sothat same may be easily grasped lor tightening tho sliding jaw as will he readily understood.
From the foregoing description, taken in conncclion with the accompan ving, drawings,
inc constant-lion and operation of the device the pin 15; In
ex endcd explanation. As mnnerons changes gi pi portionv and in the minor details construction. may ho resort d to without epartini iron: the spirit of this invent-ion,
do not wish to be limited to the const no mo heroin shown and described other than as claimed.
Having thus described my invention what; I claim as new is:--
device of the class described eomprisin r a handle having ii longitudinal bore, a fix Pa-iten'ted Mar. 28, 1922.
with in The he readily understood without a more {any a slidable jaw, a U-shaped band having jaw and provided with a socket for receiving its ends fixedly secured to said slidable jaw said ball. 10 so 'as to hold the same in slidable relation In testimony whereby I affix my signature with thihamlle, a. spiral screw mounted in in presence of two Witnesses.
said boreand adapted to el'igage said slidable jaw for operating the same, a ball \Vitnesses:

formed on the inner end of said spiral screw, CLIFFORD A. BLUNT, and a block sitnated wholly withln the fixed- ARTHUR L. BLUNT.
