Description
Aug. 19, 1924.
A. J. KERSHNER WRENCH Filed Feb. 16. 1923 ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Aug. 1,9, 1924.
UNITED STATES ANDREW J. KERSHNER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
WRENCH.
Application led February 16, 1923.
To all wlwm t may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW J. KERSHNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in 1Wrenches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wrenches, and an object of the invention is to provide a solid substantial wrench st-ructure of the vise type, which embodies a relatively large body iaving a rigid aw at one end thereof, along which body a movable jaw is mounted, the said movable jaw bein adjustable by rotation of a handle whic is in turn carried by a suitable carrying structure pivotally connected to the rigid jaw carrying body.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein Fig. l is a top plan of the improved wrench.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the wrench talzen on the line 2 2 of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. i is a cross section on the line 4 4 of Fig. l.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the improved wrench comprises a body l which is substantially U shaped and has a jaw or wrench face 2 formed on the inner edge of its bight portion. The legs 3 of the body 1 are provided with longitudinal slots 4; which serve as guideways for the ribs 5 formed on the edges of the movable block 6. The block 6 has a wrench jaw 7 formed thereon which cooperates with the wrench face or jaw 2. The substantially U shaped body l is attached, by means of rivets or suitable pins 8 to a block 9, to which block a handle st-ructure 10 is pivotally connected by means of the bolt 11 so as to assume limited angular positions for allowing Serial No. 619,475.
the wrench to be used in various positions. A feed screw 12 is connected to the slidable block 6 as shown at 13 and it threadably engages through the stationary block 9. The .end of the feed screw 12 remote from the slidable block 6 is forked as shown at 14C and has an operating handle l5 pivotally connected thereto. The operating handle l5 is rotatably carried by the handle structure l0 and it has a hand wheel 16 on its outer end by means of which the handle l5 may be rotated for adjusting the jaw 7 relative to the jaw 2. ,i
.It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in other manners and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is l. In a wrench, a substantially U shaped body having a wrench jaw on the inner edge of its bight portion, a block slidably carried by the legs of said body, a wrench aw carried by said block, a block rigidly attached to said body, a handle structure pivotally carried by said rigid block, and means carried by said handle structure and rigid block and connected to said slidable block for adjusting the position of the jaw carried thereby.
2. A wrench, comprising a body having a wrench jaw thereon, a block slidably carried by said body, a wrench aw carried by said block for adjustment relative to the first named wrench jaw, a block. rigidly carried by said body` a handle pivotally carried by said rigid block, a feed screw adjustable through said rigid block, and an operating rod carried by said pivotal handle and connected to said feed screw.
In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature.
ANDREW J. KERST-INEE.
