My invention relates to a dispensing device, and aims to provide an article of this nature, more particularly adapted for use in connection with the dispensing of pins, paper clips and similar articles.

It is well appreciated in connection with pins, paper clips and articles of a similar nature that it has been customary to house these articles within any suitable type of receptacle. When one of the articles was desired it was necessary to open the receptacle and to remove one of the massed articles therefrom, which was liable to injure the fingers, aside from the fact that in the instance of paper clips, these devices often tended to hang together.

Thus my present invention aims to pro vide a dispensing device which may be utilized in connection with pins, paper clips and articles of a similar character, and by means of which a certain amount of these will be instantly available to the user.

A further object of this invention is the construction of a device of this character which will prevent any injury to the fingers of the user.

Further objects of my invention will appear in the annexed specification taken in connection with the drawings, which latter present one practical embodiment thereof. and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device.

In these views it will be seen that the reference numeral 5 indicates the body of a receptacle of any desired character, and material, which is preferably provided with a removable cover 6.

and that further, any desirable type of finger engaging elements, such as a ring 12 is secured to the outer end of the strip 11, to permit of its being projected, a movement beyond its proper limit being prevented by means of the inwardly turned end 13 thereof. It is also to be noted in this connection that the receptacle 5 may conveniently be formed with an inwardly turned integral portion 5 which overlies one of the inner faces of the arms of the U shaped strip 11 and acts as a guide for the same thus preventing any accidental jambing of the parts. Thus an operator may freely reciprocate the strip 11 within the receptacle 5 by means of the ring 12, or other element provided for this purpose, and it will be obvious than any movement of the strip 11 will result in the strip 8 being moved with it, incident to the frictional engagement existing betweenthese two strips. p

In operating a dispensing device, the strip 11 is pulled from its housed position in the position illustrated in Figures 1 and 3, and this will obviously carry a portion of the strip 8 through the opening of the receptacle, the length of such latter strip corresponding to the amount of movement of the strip 11'.
