CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
DISPLAY BOX.
Application filed August 9, 1922.
Be it known that I, FRANK F. KNOTHE, a
citizen of the United States, and resident of Ridgewood, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a box or contamer in which a waist belt may be retained and displayed separate from its buckle, with means within the box to detachably support the buckle in position to be displayed.
In carrying out my invention I provide a box or container or such dimensions as to permit a waist belt to be coiled on edge therein, and approximately at the mid-portion of the box I provide a support for a belt buckle,
which support 1y from the bottom of the extends upwardbox in such a poin the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, where- Fig. 1 1s a perspective view of a display box embodying my invention;
Fig. 3 is a Fig. 2 is a cross section on line 2, 2 in Fig.
detail view illustrating the buckle support, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the buckle support.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
The box is indicated generally at 1 and which may be of any suitable construction, being shown provided with a hinged cover 2, although the cover may be connected with the box in any other desired manner. The box may be of an ornamental variety and is adapted to contain a waist belt 3 in such a manner that the belt will be exposed coiled and on edge. At 4 is a support for a buckle 5 to be used with the belt. The support 4 is shown provided with base portion 4 a relatively narrow adapted to be attached to the Serial No. 580,658.
bottom 1 of the box and with an upwardly extending laterally disposed relatively broad portion 4 to receive the buckle. The part 4 of the buckle support may be attached to the bottom l of the box in any suitable manner. I have shown a retaining bar 6 at the bottom of the box, which bar may be formed integral with the box bottom by slitting the latter in spaced relation and pushing the intermediate material inwardly to provide a space between the bar and the plane of the bottom of the box into which the narrow end 4 of support 4 may be pushed, as illustrated in Fig. 2. The bar 6 may be squeezed or pressed against the projection 4 to retain the same securely on the box bottom. The support 4 may be made of relatively thin flexible metal whereby the portion 4 of said support may extend along the bottom 1 of the box and the por tion 4 of support 4 may extend upwardly within the box toward the open side at any suitable angle to the bottom 1, adapted to display the buckle 5 in attractive position when applied to the support. By having the material of the support flexible the portion 4 may be bent and adjusted to any suitable angle respecting the box bottom to display the buckle most advantageously. The box may be provided with a suitable lining, as at 7, such as of velvet, and the support 4 may also be covered with a suitable covering 8, such as of velvet, the extreme end portion of projection 4 preferably being left uncovered to be securely attached to the box bottom.
The support 4 is so located, near the mid portion of the box spaced from the sides of the box, that the belt 3 may be coiled within the box around the support in such a manner as to leave a space within the coiled belt within which the support 4 is located sothat the buckle may be conveniently and advantageously displayed within the coiled belt. The buckle may he slipped upon and removed from support 4 as desired. In the form of buckle illustrated its retaining lever 5 may be used to clamp the buckle to support 4 in the same way that the buckle would be clamped upon the belt.
My improved display box will be found desirable and useful to contain a belt and its buckle for shipment and for sale as well as to retain the belt and buckle in a safe and cleanly way by the user, since the combined belts, buckles and boxes may be sold as individual articles of merchandise.
Having now described my invention, I claim is:
A display box provided with a support secured to the bottom of the box at approxwhat imately its mid-portion, said support extending from the box bottom toward its 10 open side at an angle to the box bottom, the sides of the box being spaced from said support to admit a belt between said sides and said support.
FRANK F. KNOTHE.
