E. w. SZWAJKART HOLDER AND DISPENSER FOR DENTAL STOPPING Filed NOV. 21. 1923 gw a/hrf,
Patented Apr. 15, 19.24
lfiddtdh EUGENE VI. SZWAJKART, OF CHICAGO, ILLINGIS.
HOLDER AND DISPENSER FOR DENTAL STOPEING.
Application filed November 21, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE lV. SzwAJ- KART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders and Dis pensers for Dental Stopping, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combination holding and dispensing implement specifically adapted for the holding and dispensing of dental stopping, whereby the same may be placed within the implement and fed outwardly therefrom when desired, the device also comprising a cutter for cutting oil a sufficient length of the stopping when ever the same is to be used. It will thus be seen that an implement of this character will overcome the necessity of holding the stopping in the hand and cutting off the desired length, by a knife or other implement.
The primary object of the present invention resides in the provision of an article of the above character that may be manufactured and marketed at a relatively small cost, the device being extremely simple of construction, the same comprising but few parts and these correlated with each other in such a manner as to reduce the possib-ility of disarrangement to a minimum.
With the above and other objects in view as the nature of the invention will be better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing wherein there is shown the most practical embodiment of the invention with which I am at this time familiar, and wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the differ ent views,
Figure 1 is a side elevational View of a combined holder and dispenser for dental stopping, constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Figure 2 is an edge view of the outlet end of the holder, the stopping cutter element being shown as slightly raised for allowing the stopping to be fed from its holder,
Figure 3 is an elevational view of one of the longitudinal edges of said holder, this edge being provided with a relatively elon gated longitudinal slot through which an Serial No. 896,123.
element that is carried by the sliding stopping carrying table extends for allowing this table to be slid toward the open end of the holder for manifestly discharging the stopping therefrom and for allowing the same to be out the desired length.
Figure l is a detail longitudinal sectional view of the article, and
Figure 5 is a perspective of the before mentioned sliding stopping carrying table.
Now having particular reference to the drawing, my novel stopping holder and dispenser embodies a relatively elongated and flat metallic receptacle 5 open at its opposits ends and provided at one end with a hinged snap cover of suitable design and designated 6. The opposite open end of this receptacle is formed at its vertical edges with inwardly bent guide flanges 7. These guide flanges 7-7 terminate slightly above the lower longitudinal wall of the receptacle 5 for allowing'the stopping to be fed therethrough in a manner hereinafter to be more fully described.
Disposed for longitudinal sliding movement within the receptacle 5 and upon the lower narrow bottom wall thereof is a relatively elongated stopping carrying table 8 that is formed with either one or two longitudinal concave channels 9 for the reception of the sticks of stopping material, the end of this table remote from the flanged open end of the receptacle 5 being equipped with a hinged clipper member 10 whereby the innermost stoppings may be secured to the table. The wall of the receptacle upon which said table 8 slides, is formed throughout almost its entire length with a slot 11 through which extends a thumb piece 12 carried by the table 8 and adapted to be engaged by the thumb of the dentist for manifestly forcing the stopping outwardly through the flanged open end of the receptacle.
Guided for vertical sliding movement be tween the before mentioned flanges 77 is a cutter member 12 that is formed at its upper end with a finger piece 13 for facilitating the raising and lowering of said knife, it being of course obvious that after the stopping has been fed outwardly from the receptacle, this cutter element 12 may be forced downwardly for manifestly cutting off suflicient length of the stoppin From the above it will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel holding and dispensing article for dental stopping and one that Will l believe, meet with all of the requirements for successful commercial use.
Minor changes may be made Within the invention Without departin from the spirit receptacle, the bottom of said receptacle hav ing a longitudinally extending slot provided therein, an article supporting table slidably supported in the bottom of said receptacle, means at one end thereof for engagement with the article for holding the same on the table, and means extending from the bottom o'l said table through said slot for feeding the article on the table to said cutter.
A device of the class described c01npris ing an elongated receptacle open at its opposite ends, a hinged closure for one of the,
ends of the same, a cutting member adapted for slidable movement in the other end 01" the receptacle, the bottom of said receptacle having a longitudinally extending slot provided therein, an article supporting table slidably supported in the bottom of said receptacle, hinged clip carried by the rear end of said table and adapted or engagement with the rear portion of the article support ed on the table for holding the same in position thereon, and a handle extending from the bottom of said table adjacent said hinged clip through said slot for feeding the forward end of the article through the cutter.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
DR. EUGENE lV. SZXVAJKART.
