Be it known that I, LOUIS KRoN'rHAL, a. citizen of the United States, and a ,resident of the city of New York, borough 0f Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a newand Improved Cap, of which the following is a, full, clear, and exact description.

This invention 'relates to head-wear and refers more particularly to a cap, the same being in the nature of an improvement over articles of a similar nature disclosed in United States Letters Patents Nos. 1,014,505 and .1,040,727 issued respectively on J anuary 9, 1912, and October 8, 1912.

The invention broadly contemplates a cap which is so constructed as to render the same applicable to heads of various sizes.

A -further object of the invention resides in the provision of a cap of the character described which operates to snugly lit the head of the wearler whereby to most effectively retain the same i-n position and whereby to present a neater and more attractive appearance.

l A still further object in view resides in 4the provision ofA acap construction which includes means of adjustment for limiting the radial expansion of the head receiving opening, and mea-ns co-operating therewith for retaining said means in its adjusted position.

A further object vin view resides in the provision of a cap of the character set forth which is comparatively simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and highly efiicient in its purpose, and which does not materially add to 'or increase the cost of production.

lVith the above recited and other objects in view the invention resides in the nove] construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth inthe following specification, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanyin drawings, it being understood that the rig t is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims -are exe' pressed.

Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, 10 designates a cap body constructed from any suitable material and of any desired shape or configuration, thesame being provided with a head receiving openlng 11 on its under side. The specific con'- struction illustrating the rear lower end of the cap hassecured thereto an outer band 12 which is stitched to the cap body by the stitching 13 which extends around the rear of the cap from points approximately at dla-metrically opposite sides thereof. This arrangement leaves the forward lreduced extreanities 14 free to be brought around over the front of the lower edge of the cap which extends slightly below the rear lower edge. A visor 15 is preferably secured to the depending front edge of the cap as illustrated and if desired the forward portion of the bod7 and the peak 15 may be secured` together by the separable fastening elements 16 and 17. One extremity 14 is provided with a socket member 18 and the opposite extremity with a plurality of headed members 19 for selectively receiving the socket member whereby to vary the circumferential measurement of the head receiving opening.

The free. lower edge of the outer band 12 has secured thereto a sweatband section 20 which lies parallel to the outer band 12 and extends from dliametrically opposed points on the opposite sides thereof. A forward sweatband section 22 is secured to the depending forward extremity of the cap body by the stitching 23 which terminates short of the rearwardly projecting extensions 24 thereof. The rear sweatband section 20 is vertically slitted at its opposite ends as at 25 and' the extensions 24 are trained therethrough. An elastic connection 26 is secured-respectively at its opposite ends to the extension 24 of the forward sweatband section and the extensions 24 and elastic connection 26 are arranged between the outer band 12 and the sweatband section 20.

By this arrangement it will be seen that the elasticconnection 26 normally exerts a tension to effect a contraction of the head receiving opening 11, while the outer band 12 serves to adjustably limit the radial expansion of the head receiving opening-by the interengagement of the socket member 1'8 with the .headedmembers 19 provided on l head receiving openin the opposite ends of the extremities 14: of the outer band.-

From the foregoing it will be seen that a cap construction is provided which affords a wide range of ad'ustment with the w ereby the cap 1s rendered applicable to ads of various sizes.

The elastic connection operates to effect the snug. fit of the capi to the head and when the same is in position on the head of the wearer the appearance isv that of .any ordinar cap.

Ifaving thus described my lnvention, what I claimis:

1. A cap including a bod having a head receiving opening, means or normally effecting a contraction of the opening comprising opposed inner semi-circular band sections secured respectively to saidcap body at the front and rear thereof, one of said sections having slits in its terminals through which the terminals of the other `band section extend and an elastic connection between the terminals of said latter band section, and means for limitin the expansion of the ope'ninfg..v

2. A cap including a body having a head receiving opening, means for normally effecting a contraction of the opening comprising opposed innersemi-circular band sections secured respectively to said cap body at the front and rear thereof, one of said sections having slits in its terminals through which the terminals of the other band sec-l tion extend and an elastic connection between the terminals of said latter band section, and' means for adjustably limiting the expansion of the opening.

3. A cap including a body having a head receiving opening, means for normally effecting a contraction of the opening comprising opposed inner semi-circular band sections -secured respectively tol said cap body at the front and rear thereof, one of s said sections having slits in `its terminals secured within the body at the rear portion of said opening, a forward sweatband section secured to the body within said opening having free rearwardly extending extremities, an elastic connectlon between said extremities for effecting a normal radial contraction of the head receiving opening, vand anl outer band secured to the body adjacent its lower rear end, said outer .band having free forwardly extending extremities provided with a detachable connection for `\lirniting the radial expansion of the head receiving openlng. v

5. A cap comprising a body having a head-receiving opening, a -rear sweatband, section secured within the body at the rear portion of `said opening, a forward sweat'- band section secured to the bod-y within said opening having free rearwardly extending extremities, an elastic connection between said extremeties for effecting a normal radial contraction of the head receiving opening, and an outer band secured to the body adjacent its lower 'rear end, said outer band having free forwardly extending extremities, and adjustable means for connecting thel iforward extremities whereby to adjustably limit the radial expansion of the head receivingA opening. A cap comprising a body having a head receiving opening, `an outer band secured to the lower edge of said bodyl at the rear thereof and -provided with free forwardly extending extremities, a socket member carried by the forward end of one extremity, and a plurality of headed members carriedby the forward end of the other extremity adapted to selectively engage the socket member whereby to obtain circumferential' adjustments of the head receiving openings, a rear inner band secured at its lower edge tothe lower edge of the outer band, with the ends thereof terminating adjacent the medial portion of the sides of the head receiving opening, said inner band having vertical slits adjacent the extremities thereof, a ,forward inner band section secured to the lower edge of the ca body and provided with rearwardly exten ing extremities trained through the slits in the rear inner band section, and an elastic connection between said rearwardly extending extremities, said extremities and elastic connection' lying between the. rear inner band section and the outer band section.
