UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH DIETSCHE, 33., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR T AMERICAN LITHOGRAPHIC COMPANY, OF NEW YORK. N. Y.,
A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
MULTIPLE-POCKET ENVELOPE.
Application filed January 6, 1921.
ful Improvements in Multiple-Pocket Envelopes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to multiple-pocket envelopes and has for its object to provide an article, of the class specified, formed of an integral blank which may be easily folded into assembled condition, and having latch-- ing means adapted to hold the envelope secure in closed condition.
With these objects in view and others which will appear hereinafter, my improvements comprise features which are illustrated in their preferred embodiment in the drawing accompanying this specification, wherein p Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cut-out and creased blank adapted for folding into my improved envelope. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the blank. of Fig. 1 with the pocket forming portions folded into position.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation showing a. further.
step in the folding, and Fig. 1 is a similar elevation showing the article entirely folded and latched. Fig.5 is a vertical section on line 5-5 of Fig. 4:. The scale of the first four figures is substantially equal, and the scale of Fig. 5 is about twice that of the other figures.
The blank, which is folded in a predd termined manner to produce my improved envelope, comprises a body and an accordion-like portion which is folded into said body for formin pockets. The body comprises back 2, si e flap 3, upper flap 4 and bottom flap 5. 'The accordion-like pocketformin portion 6 has one edge articulated at 7 to iody back 2, and said member 6 may be divided into a plurality of panels, as 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13, by score lines, as 14, parallel with score line 7 where said member 6 joins back 2. These several panels are each of a width slightly less than the width of back 2 so as to be readily folded into the body portion. Also, these panels of member 6 are U shaped at their upper-edges respectively and those U shaped depressions are cut to difierent depths in the several panels Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 24, 1922.
Serial'No. 435,399.
so that, when member 6 is folded into the body portion, a plurality of walls are provided, of increasing height at their widthwide mid-portions, from the front wall, panel 8, to the back or inner wall, panel 13, whereby, as shown, a plurality of pockets are formed, each conveniently accessible for the insertion and removal of thin flat objects such as cards or papers. It will be observed that U shaped top 15 of end panel 13 is the highest, top 16 of the next panel slightly lower, and so on to the low cut top 17 of panel 8.
, Directing attention now to side flap 3, it will be noted that this flap is L shaped, free edge 18 of its upstandin portion 19 conforming, when folded, with edge 20 of panel 8, and lower edge 21 conforming with top 17 of said panel 8. For holdin the several panels of member 6, when folded into the body portion with flap 3 folded thereover in secure position, lower flap 5 is provided with tab 22. In assembling, said tab is tucked in over lower edge 21 of side fla 3 and behind edge 17 of front panel 8. For closing the envelope, upper flap 4 is provided with opposite side ears 23, 24:, which are tucked in behind the upper edges of lower flap 5 at the sides respectively of tab 22. Said upper flap 1- may also be provided with a short central tab 25 which is tucked in behind the folded-in tab 22 of said lower flap 5, thus efficiently closing the envelope.
lVhile my improved envelope is illustrated herein as provided with six panels to member 6. it will be understood that such choice is arbitrary and that the essential features of my invention would be equally satisfied with a greater or less number of panels. Also in some instances it may be desirable to omit upper flap 1 whereby an open-ended multiple-pocket envelope is provided.
I claim: V
