Description
UNITED STATES. PATENT'OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. DUMAS, or LEBANON, NEW HAMPSHIRE, AssIGnoR or ONE-HALF To ,J'OSEPH MOORE, 0F LEBANON, NEW HAMPSHIRE. I 1
LOOM ATTACHMENT.
To allwhom itmay concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. DUMAS, a citizen of the United States residing at Lebanon, in the county of Grafton and State of New Hampshire,- have invented new and useful Improvements in Loom Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to loom; attachments and more particularly to means for oonpecting the picker stick and the sweep stic One of the objects, is to do away with the lug or sweep strap and the power strap now in use, and to reduce the liability of accidents through breakage of the power strap and the letting down of the sweep strap, causing the unusual and violent movement of the shuttles, the latter flying out or roducing defects in the warp.
1E further object is to employ for the purpose indicated, instead of leather, canvas, or other similar material, an attachment of metal or of fiber, so constructed and mounted that it permits of accurate adjustment, and also permits of maintaining uniform and even application of the power.
A still further object is to provide an attachment which will obviate the necessity of making bolt holes! or the like in the picker stick, causing the weakening of the latter, means also being providedwhereby the attachment may be readily adjusted longitudinally of the picker stick.
A still further object is to provide a device which will be less expensive, both in regard to the first installation and the cost of maintenance.
-In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary view in elevation showing a portion of a picker stick and a portion of a sweep stick of a loom with one form of the device applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a View in elevation looking from the right in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing one of the straps to be connected with the sweep stick.
Figs. 4 and 5 show details of construction relating to this form of the device and described below.
The picker stick is designated 10 being pivotally mounted at the lower end as in the usual construction, and the sweep stick is designated 12. A plurality of straps Specification of. Letters Patent.
1918 Serial No. 244,453. g
13 and 14 are each provided with a longitudinal slot 15- for the accommodation of a" Patented Sept. 27, 1921.
The bolt 16 is secured by means of a nut 17 engaging a washer 18 carried by the bolt, and a similar washer is provided on the opposite side between the head of the bolt and the strap on that side. The straps 13 are each provided with notched portions 13 engaged by corresponding notches in the washer 18 permitting of positive contact when adjustment is secured. The use of a single bolt such as 16 makes it unnecessary to provide a plurality of apertures in the sweep stick, which apertures would weaken the stick and cause breakage, resulting in the loss of time in the operation of the machine.
The rear or outer end of each strap 13 and 14 is reduced in width as compared with the body portion of the strap, but is made somewhat thicker and thereby alfords sufiicient strength for the purpose indicated.
The reduced ends of the strap pass through slots 22 and 23 in plate member 24,
plane surface side of the picker width shown as compared with the thickness of the picker stick, and is provided with lugs 26 engaging opposite sides of the picker stick in the manner shown.
What is claimed is:
In a device of the class described, a picker stick, a sweep stick, a plate mounted on one side of thepicker stick and provided with slots extending longitudinally of the picker stick and also provided with apertures in approximate alinement with the slots, slotted straps extending on opposite sides of the sweep stick and passing respectivelythrough the slots in the plate, and a staple member passing around the picker stick, and through the apertures in the plate, means for securing the staple to the plate, and means for pivotally connecting the straps with the plate.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
i WILLIAM H. DUMAS.
