A. C. HUDGENS CHECK$TRAP HOLDER Filed Oct. 26, 1925 WITNESS: v H
Patented Mar. 8, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT C. HUDGENS, OF GREENWOOD, SOUTH CAROLINA, ASSIGNOR TO LOOM LAY PATCH COMPANY, OF GREENWOOD, SOUTH CAROLINA, A CORPORATION OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
CHECKSTRAIP HOLDER.
Application filed October 26, 1925. Serial No. 64,979.
This invention relates to improvements in looms and has for an object the provision of means for attaching the picker stick check strap holder to the lay and thus relieve the lay of strain due to the operation of the picker stick.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means which in addition to acting as a check strap holder, will provide reinforcement at the Weakest point of the lay and will materially reduce cost of operation by increasing the life of the lay and by eliminating the loss of time occasioned by replacing a damaged lay.
Nith the above and other objects in View, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings .l*igure 1 is a fragmentary elevation illustrating the invention applied to a loom lay.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detail view of the invention per se.
Referring to the drawings in detail where in like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates one end of a loom lay which is provided with an opening 12 for the acconnnodation of the picker stick 18. Attached to the lay is a check strap holder or stand which comprises a plate 14, the said plate having attached thereto as indicated at 15, the opposite ends of the check strap 16, the latter being also supported by a member 17 extending from the lay.
Usually, the check strap holder or plate 14: is bolted directly to the lay so that the latter is considerably weakened at this point due to the strain occasioned by the operation of the picker stick. To overcome this objection, the present invention comprises a combined check strap holder support and lay reinforcing member which includes a plate 18. This plate is secured to the lay by suitable means, such as a bolt 19 at one end of the plate and a wood screw 20 at the opposite end. Extending from the plate is a 1 lug 21 which is attached to said plate by a web 22, this Web and lug being positioned within a socket 23 provided in the lay. A reinforcing rib' 2 1 extends along the lower edge of the plate.
The lug 21 is provided with a threaded opening 25 and this opening registers with an opening 26 formed in the lay. A screw 27 extends through the plate 14 and the opening 26 and has a threaded engagement with the opening 25 of the lug 21. Thus, the lug is held in position by a plate 18 and acts to support the plate 14 so that the latter is relieved of the strain of operation of the picker stick. In addition, this plate 18 being relatively long and secured to the lay along one edge of the opening 12, acts to reinforce the latter at its weakest point.
The invention is susceptible of Various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as proper- 1y fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is:
1. In combination with a loom lay and a check strap holder, :1. combined attaching and reinforcing plate extending longitudinally of the underside of one end of the lay, a lug extending from the plate into the lay and a fastening device connecting the strap holder and lug.
2. In combination with a loom lay and a check strap holder, a combined attaching and reinforcing plate extending longitudinally of the under side of one end of the lay a lug extending from the plate into the lay along one side of the picker stick slot, an apertured lug extending from the plate into a socket provided in the lay and said lay having an opening therein registering with the aperture of the lug and a fastening de vice extending through the lay opening into and engaging the lug and connecting the strap holder and lug.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ALBERT C. HUDGENS.
