Description
Nov. 17, 1931. A WEIGEL I 1,832,162
PLOW LAY ATTAGHING DEVICE Filed April 10, 1931 o w a INVENTOR Patented Nov. 17, 1931 UNITED STATES1 ALOIS WEIGEL, or KINTYBE, NORTH nAxo'rA PLOW LAY Arr en us DEVICE Application filed April 10,
This invention relates to a plow lay attaching device and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a L5. device of the character stated especially adapted to be used upon a turning plow and serving as means for securely holding the lay in proper position with relation to the mold board.
In plows of this character it is the usual practice to provide a single bolt for holding the lay in proper position with relation to the mold board. After continued use the bolt is liable to become loose and consequently the lay is easily broken because it is not fastened tightly. A further object of the present invention is to provide a device which at all times will tightly draw the lay up close to the mold board so that the lay is tightly held with relation to the mold board should the bolt become loosened.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow with parts broken away showing the attach- 5 ing device applied to the plow beams and in position with relation to the lay and mold board of the plow when the parts are held tightly together.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the plow.
Figure 3 is a detailed transverse sectional view out on the line 3--3 of Figure 1.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawings the plow includes the usual beam 1. mold board 2 and lay 3. A cleat 4 is applied to the under side of the mold board and is provided with a slot 5 adapted to receive a bolt 6 carried by the lay 3. When the lay 3 is in proper position with relation to the 0 mold board 2 the bolt-6 has been slipped into the slot 5 and has been tightened whereby the lay is held with relation to the mold board. The attaching device includes a bracket 7 secured to the beam 1 by means of a bolt 8, the said bracket being prevented from turning with relation to the beam by an angularly extending end portion 9 which engages against the edge of the said'beam as clearly indicated in the Figures 2 and 3 of 1921, Serial No. 529,183.
the drawings; with a stud 10 upon which is pivotedalever 11', the lever 11 having a curved end portion 12. A link' 13 is 'pivotally connected at one end with the curved end of the lever 12- and is'provided at its other end-with an angular extension '14 which slidably receives a rod=15. The rod is provided at one end with a fiat head 16 having a slot 17 which receives a stud 18'-attached to the under side to the posi- The bracket 7 provided A tion as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings 1 the spring 21 is compressed by the angularly disposed end 14 of the link 13 and inasmuch as the slot 15 of the head 16 receives the stud 18 the lay is drawn up tightly at its upper edge against the lower edge of the mold board 2 and the lay is held in this position should the bolt 6 become loose.
From the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it will be seen that simple and durable means are provided for securely holding the lay of a plow in proper position with relation to the mold board thereof, and in the event that the usual securing bolt should become loosened the lay is held in position and is prevented from-vibrating or becom- I ing broken by reason of vibration.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1..A plow lay attaching device comprising a bracket member for attachment to the plow, a lever pivoted upon said-- bracket member and having a curved end portion. a link pivoted to the curved end portion of the lever. a rod slidable in the link, and a spring interposed between a fixed point upon the rod and a fixed part of the link. said rod having a slottedhead adapted to receive a part carried by the lay.
2. A plow lay attaching device comprising a bracket member, a lever pivoted to the bracket member and having a curved end portion, a link pivoted to the curved end portion of the lever and having an angularly disosed end portion, a rod slidably mounted 1n the angularly disposed end portion of the link, a spring interposed between the angularly disposed end portion of the link and i a fixed point upon the rod, said rod having a slotted head, and a lug carried by the lav and adapted to enter the slot of said head.
3. A plow layattaching device comprising a bracket member having a lug adapted to engage the edge of a plow beam and provided with a pivot stud, a lever having a curved end portion pivoted upon the said stud, a link pivoted to the eurved end por- V tion of the lever and having an angularly disposed end portion, a rod slidably mountpoint between said head and the angularly disposed end portion of the link.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature ALOIS WVEIGEL-
