Application led April 7, 1923.
To all whom it may concern: y
Be it known that I, JONAS Non'rrrnor, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hopedale, in the county of l/Vorcester and- State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picker-Stick Parallel Motions; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. l
The present invention relates to an 1mprovement in picker stick parallel motions.
The object of the invention is to reorganize and improve these motions in order to render them stronger and more durable, and to these ends the invention consists in the improvement hereinafter described and particularly defined in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the preferred form of the invention, Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the parallel motion; Fig. 2 is a section taken onthe line 2-2, Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is av section taken on the line 3 3, Fig. 1; and Fig. 1 is a perspective viewfof a clamp plate hereinafter referred to.
The illustrated embodiment of the invention is described as follows: The stand is secured to Vthe la rocker shaft 11, provided on its up er side with the lrocker surface 12 upon w ich the sole or rocker 13 of the shoe 14 is supported. The stand is provided with the usual tongue 15 which is received lin a ton e slot 16 in the sole of the shoe. vThe pic er stick 17 extends down through a hole in the shoe and is attached by means of the strap -18 to the end of a spring 19, which normally tends to pull upon the strap so as to move the picker stickto the position illustrated in Fig. 1.. The shoev is provided with a housing 20 which rises from the sole and partially encloses the picker stick justabove the sole of the shoe. A tongue21, havinglanges 22 is supported in the housing of t e shoe and engages the edge Aof the picker stick, the anges fitting the sides of the stick, and the flat surface of the tongue engaging the edge of the stick. This tongue takes -aainst the wedge-shaped bearing plug p. picker stick bolt 23 PICKER-STICK PARALLEL MOTION.
semi m. 630,514.
passes through the housin 20, the tongue 21, thepicker stick 17 an the end of the slrap 18, and holds the picker stick on the s oe.
So far as described the construction is that illustrated in the Boisvert Patent No. 775,890, dated November 22, 1904. The bolt 23 after passing through the strap, passes through a hole 24 in the follower piece 25,
-and is provided with a lock washer and a nut. By tightening up this bolt the picker stick is held in fixed relation to the shoe. Under the strains to which the parallel motion is sub'ected in use it has, been found that the picker stick is frequently broken at this bolt hole, and the specific object of the present invention is to redesign the construction in such way as to render the stick more durable by ai'ordin it more secure and firm connection with t e shoe, reinforcing it at its place of liability to breaking. To this end the follower piece 25 is rovided with wings 26 on each side, whic extend alon both sides of the pickerstick and are provlded with holes 27 for auxiliary bolts 28. The housing 20 of the shoe is provided with lateral ears 29, which extend outwardly beyond the flanges 30 of the housing, and are provided with holes 31 to receive the bolts 28. By means of these bolts an a" led pressure is brought to bear on thn arts which embrace and compress the picker stick so as thereby to strengthen the stick at the point where it is most liable to break.
It will be observed that thefollower iece 25 is elongated lengthwisev of the icker stick, and by means of the three bo ts by which it is secured to the housing of the shoe it is pressed against the picker stick with great pressure, the latter being thereby reinforced and strengthened by the follower.
-Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is: i
A picker stick parallel motion having, in
combination, a stand, a pickerstick, a shoe,
