Description

Nov. 16 1926. I 1,607,410
I W. s. MILLS 1 we STRAP CONNECTION Fild March so, 1926 Patented Nov. 16, 1926.
UNITED STATES,
WILLIAM S. MILLS, OF HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA.
LUG-S'IBAP CONNECTION.
Application filed March 30, 1926.
This invention relates to 2. lug strap connection for use in looms.
It is aimed to provide a novel construction in which wear on the part of the lug strap and pick arm is minimized, wherein such arm may be reversed to overcome the necessity of providing them in right and left hand styles, and a construction in which a wear block used in connection with the lug l0 strap may be reversed.
Another object is to provide a construc tion overcoming the use of bolts as in existing forms, and thereby avoiding the constant trouble they give due to wear and breakage, and the incidental stoppage of the loom and loss in production and labor and at an increase in cost of manufacture.
Additional objects and advantages will be pointed out and become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawings illustrating an operative embodiment.
In said drawings Figure -1 is a plan view illustrating the parts;
Figure 2 is a front end elevation thereof, and
Figure 3 is a sectional View taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1. l
Referring specifically to the drawings, 10 designates a pick arm, as of metal, adapted for detachable connection with a pick lever 11 or" a loom, as by means of a bolt 12 accommodated in an elongated slot 13 of said pick arm. The pick arm is of a construction which will enable it to be used on pick levers 11 which at present require right and left hand styles.
The pick arm 10 at the top has a head 14 provided with two horizontal openings therethrough in which bushings 15 are removably disposed. Said bushings may be fastened in place in any suitable manner but as shown cotter keys 16 are utilized which are disposed diagonally of the head in opposite directions, and pass through exterior transverse grooves 17 of said bushings 15, to prevent accidental detachment of the bushings from the head.
Slidably disposed in the bushings 15 is the usual lug strap 18, as shown being of U-shape and having tines 19 slidably passing through said bushings 15. The freeends of the tines form their attaching means Serial No. 98,528.
as at 20. It is to be noted that the portions 20 are closer together than the remainder 0'1": the tines 19. Due to the fact that the bushings 15 are removable, the tines may be removed through the opening of the head.
Injurious contact and wear of the closed end of the lug strap 18 against the arm 10 is avoided by means of a block 21 having openings through which the arms 19 removably pass.
Both the bushings 15 and the block 21 are preferably made from indurated fiber or other material which will resist wear and accordingly a connection is provided in which wear will take place to a minimum extent and which the danger of breakage, as in the case of a fastening bolt, is avoided.
Changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim as my invention 1. In combination, a pick arm, a lug strap having tines displaced from a straight line and passing through openings of the arm, bushings surrounding the tines and disposed in said openings, said bushings being re- Ymovable to enable the tines to be directly removed through said opening.
2. In combination, a pick arm, a lug strap passing therethrough provided with a laterally disposed portion, and bushings carried by the arm in which the lug strap is directly mounted, said bushings being removable to enable the pick arm to be directly removed through said portion.
3. In combination, a pick arm, a lug strap passing therethrough, bushings carried by the arm in which the lug strap is directly mounted, said bushings being removable to permit the removal of the lug straps directly through the bushing holes, and a block carried by the lug strap for contact with the arm.
4. In combination, a pick arm, a lug strap passing therethrough having tines displaced from a straight line, bushings carried by the arm in which the tines are directly mounted, and a block carried by the lug strap for contact with the arm, said bushings being removable to permit removal of l the tines directly through the bushing holes, said bushings and block being of wear-resisting material.
5. In combination, a pick arm provided with openings therethrough, fiber bushings disposed in said openings, said bushings said bushings being removable to enable the having exterior transverse slots, fastening tines to be removed directly through said elements passing removably through the openings, and a block between the closed 1 head and disposed in said slots to prevent end of the strap and the arm through which 5 longitudinal displacement of the bushings, said tines pass.
