lwvsnron REUBEN G. Smmvs UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BUILDING-TILE.
Application filed October 6, 1917. Serial No.
T all whom it may concern e it known that I, REUBEN G. SuIoNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of 'alifornia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Building-Tiles, of which the following is a specification.
his invention relates to a buildinggtile.
manner to withstand longitudinal, lateral and diagonal strains, without materially adding to the cost of manufacture and without in any way interfering with the use of the tile.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
e invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings in which: I
Figure l is a view in trating the preferred form of the tile. disclosing it with diagonal brace walls and rutfied outer faces.
Fig. 2 is a view in end elevation illustrating another form of the tile in which intermediate tranverse partition walls are used in addition to the diagonal walls.
eferring more particularly to the drawings, indicates the preferred form of the tile with which the present invention is concerned. This tile has parallel side walls 11 and 12 and parallel end walls 13 and ll. which combine with the side walls to form a rectangular tile. Mid-way the length between the end walls is a center brace wall 15 which is parallel to these walls and formed integral with the side walls at right angles thereto. posite end walls and the middle brace wall are diagonal brace walls 16 and 17. These walls are the length of the end walls and exadjacent corners formed by the middle wall and one side wall to the opposite lower corners formed by the end walls and the opposite side wall. It will be un derstood that the entire structure is formed of a plastic material and that the outer faces of the side and end walls may be treated to produce various effects. In the present instance, one side wall and one end wall has been rufiled so that when the tiles are laid perspective illus- Specification of Letters Patent.
Interposed between the op Patented Aug. 16, 1921. 195,124.
they will have a finish of being plastered.
In the modified shown in Fig. 2, a having side walls 11 and 12, end walls 13 and 14, and a middle wall 15, :s previously described. Diagonal brace walls 16 and 17 are also provided. These walls, however, are separately braced by transverse bracing walls 19 and 20 which are interposed midway the distance between the middle wall and each of the end walls. By this construction the tile will be adequately braced to withstand any strain to which it is normally subjected, and its utility will be readily recognized.
lVhile I have shown the preferred construction of my building tile as now known to me, it will be understood that various changes in the combination, construction and arrangement 01? parts may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit 0]? my invention as claimed.
claim:
form of the invention 1. A building tile having parallel side walls, end walls parallel to each other and at right angles to said side walls. a brace wall parallel to the end walls and disposed mid-way the distance therebetween. diagonal brace walls extending trom the corners formed by the end and side walls to the corners formed by the middle brace wall and one side wall. and intermediate brace walls interposed between the end walls and the middle brace wall and extending across the diagonal walls with which they are formed integral.
2. A building tile including parallel side walls. parallel end walls. a brace wall paral lel to the end walls and disg'iosed midway therebetween. two diagonal walls exteinling respectively from the corners Formal by one side wall and said end walls .to the corners termed by the other side wall and said brace wall, and intermediate brace walls interposed between the end walls and the middle brace wall and intersecting and formed integral with said diagonal walls.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
