Application led August 15, 1918. Serial No. 250,506.
To all whom t my concern:
Be it known that l, FRANK N. GILBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Binghamton, inthe county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Pencil, Pen, and Pad Holder, of which the following is -a specification.
The present invention relates to a sta tionary article case or holder'adapted to be carried kin the pocket, and has for an4 object the retention of loose cards or sheets with data or notes thereon. Y
The above, and other important objects and advantages of this invention will be in part described in, and in part understood from, the following detailed description .of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein;
Figure l is a plan view of a stationary article holder constructed according to this invention, the holder being unfolded.
Fig. 2 is an edge view of the holder, folded certain parts being omitted.
Fig. 3 is a similar view, showing the device adjusted for supporting short pens or pencils.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the holder in open position ready for use.
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one form of pad which may be used with this improved holder.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary end view of one of the flaps or sections of the holder, showing a modified means for carrying memorandum slips.
Fig. 7 is a transverse section through one end of one of the flaps, showing a further modified form of sheet holding means.
designates the body portion of the holder whichl is in the form of a fiat strip of leather, paper, or'other suitable material or combination thereof. This body portion A; is folded into substantially equal lengths to 'form folds or sections 3, 3 and 3. rlhe folded portion of the body between thev sections 3 and 3 is folded inwardly on the line 4 to provide short vfolds or guides as will presently appear, and designated as 4, 4.
The infolded portion 4, 4 is perforated along the line 4 to provide socket openings 5 and 5 for the reception of pencils and a fountain pen or the like. rlhe portion 4, 4 is reinforced by the provision of a strip 6 secured preferably to the inner side thereof, Y
and comprising any suitable material.
lhe section 3 is adapted to. carry a pad of blank paper, and for this purpose may be provided with a slot 7 for the reception of the tongue as of t ie usual form of pad shown in Fig. 5. rlhel section 3 has a relatively stiff tongue 8 on its outer side which is adapted to engage between the Yleaves of the ordinary pad F which may be used in lieu of the pad of Fig. 5.
@n the inner face of the section 3 is placed one or more tongues 9, 9 adapted to hold sheets f which may have been removed from the pad F.v rlhe tongue 9 is preferably arranged at one side of the section 3 to facilitate the introduction and removal of thev present instance as of the detachable type,
and may be further secured by a pocket strip ll which Vis carried by the section 3 near or at its outer end and into which the end of the card 7i is to be inserted. The pocket strip 11 may be secured to the section 3 by overturned flanges 12 on the section which are glued or otherwise fastened to the strip 11, as shown, in Fig. 7
The section 3 has, near its free end, a transverse fold line b providing an end flap g/ adapted to be turned up into the position shown in Fig. 3 for supporting short pencils and the like.
In use, the section 3 is first folded over upon the middle section 3', and with the pencil socket portion 4,74 projecting inwardly. The pad isk now mounted upon the exposed side of the first or inner section 3, and the case may be closed by folding the outer section 3 over upon the inner section 3.
The sides 4, 4L form inclined guides adapted to receive the points of pencils and the 3 and 3 at the line of fold therebetween, but when the pencils become shorterby use thev end flap g/ may be folded up between the section 3 and the middle section to form a ledge or shelf for the pencil ffpoints. yThe flapy provides means for maintaining theY vends of the pencilsat all timesin position for easyv grasping.
Vhat I claim is: s
l. ln'a pocket pen and pad holder, av rectangular flat blank body portion composed of'leather or other flexible materialk adapted to be folded in folds of even lengthto provide sides forthe holder, onel of the folds being rentrant and lying'between the sides of the holder, the Said rentrant fold being` provided with openings to receive a penv or pencil, anda reinforcing stripsecured to the body portion about said openings.
2. A. oclret stationery caseincluding a flat strip folded over on a transverse line to provide sides for the case and having at its fold an inturned rentrant perforated portion formingy guides for a pencil point and' sockets for the reception of thel pencil.
3. A pocket. stationery case 'including a flat strip foldedon a transverse line to pro'- vide sides for the case and having at its fold an inturned perforated portion forming guides for a pencil point andsoclrets-forthe y reception of a pencil, the free end of one of Said sides being adapted tobe folded over 'i to form aseat in which the points of the pencils are adapted to be supported.`
4., A. pocket stationery casecomprising a flat stripfolded on transverse lines to proy vide sides and a flap for the case, the fold between the sides being, inturned and pera forated to form gnides forfpencil points and sockets for `the pencils, and means on vthe outer face of one of the sides for. supporting a'writing pad. y f j 1 ln testimony whereof Ihave affixed my Vsignature in the presence ofvtwo.Y witnesses.
