MORRIS E. FELDMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. 'Y.
HOLDER.
Application filed April 29, 1924. Serial No. 709,866.
To all whom it may concern.
Be itknown that I, Momzrs E. FELDMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to holders and more particularly to holders for the convenience of radio receiving enthusiasts for containing paraphernalia necessary for locating and recording the stations received, in aquick and efi icient manner, and for also accommodating what is known as radio ap' plause cards and stamps therefor.
Another object of the invention is to provide a holder having a plurality of separate compartments or pockets, the same being cut and bent from a single blank of relatively stiff material.
A further object of the invention resides in the construction of an article of the type mentioned, which is simple in construction, cheap of manufacture and highly ornamental and attractive as well as useful.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention folded and ready for use.
Figure 2 is a plan View of the blank from which the holder is formed.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 44 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the holder partially folded.
It is the practice with radio enthusiasts to equip themselves with a chart bearing a list of broadcasting stations, a writing instrument for logging the stations received, applause cards for mailing to these stations in appreciation of the program rendered, and stamps for such cards. These articles are usually kept in a scattered position and it is therefore my intention of providing a holder for accommodating all of these articles for instant use, and whereby the holder may be stood upon the radio cabinet or hung adjacent thereto.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the reference numeral 10 designates a holder in its entirety, which is formed from a single blank or relatively stiff but pliable material and designated at A, such as cardboard, tin, celluloid, leather or the like. The blank A is cut and bent to provide substantially large pockets or compartments 11 and 12, a smaller pocket or compartment 13 and a pencil or pen trough or rack 14:. An easel 15 is provided at the back of the holder for supporting the same in an inclined position and is capable of being folded against the back when desired to hang the holder from a hook or nail by passing the same through an opening 16 in the back wall at the top thereof. It will be seen that the mouth of the pocket 12 is disposed below the mouth of the pocket 11, which renders the pocket 11 deeper for the reception of a radio broadcasting chart, and the pocket 12 is of a size to snugly receive a pack or applause cards which are of a size equal to an ordinary postal card. The pocket or compartment 13 is attached to the front wall of the pocket 11 and above the pocket 12 for the accommodation of a quantity of postage stamps for attachment to the cards c011- tained in the pocket 12. The rack 14 supports a pen and a pencil for writing purposes and may also be appropriate for supporting awatch in an upright position. Whereas I have mentioned one use of the holder, it will be understood that the same may also be used for many other purposes such as for supporting writing paper and envelopes.
As hereinbefore mentioned, the holder is formed from a single blank of material designated at A, which is scored or creased so as to facilitate the bending thereof on the proper lines and which includes a back 16, an intermediate wall 17 and a front wall 18. The intermediate wall 17 is separated from the rear wall by an end wall 19 and is adapted to be folded on the lines 20 and 21 to lie parallel with the rear wall 16 and front wall 18. Opposite the end wall 19 is another end wall 22, foldable on lines 23 and 24, the wall 22 being flanked by a flap 25. The flap 25 is adapted to be adhesively secured to the back of the intermediate wall 17 adjacent the side edge thereof. The intermediate wall 17 is scored horizontally as at 26 and 27 to provide a bottom 28 for the pocket 11 and a flap 29 for adhesive connection with the front of the rear wall 16.
Integral with the end wall 22 is a part constituting a front wall 30 of the stamp pocket 13, adjacent which is aplurality of vertical score lines 31, 32 and and which form end walls 34: and 35 and an attaching tab 36 for adhesive connection with the front of the intermediate wall 17. Horizontal score lines 37 and 38 are provided and which form the bottom 39, and flap 10, for adhesive connection with the same wall as the flap 36.
The back wall 16 and the front wall 18 are separated from each other, and the space between the same is scored horizontally as at 11, 42, e3, 44, 45 and 16 to provide sections 46, 47, 48, 41-9 and 50. The section 46 is flanked by tabs 51 foldable on the lines for adhesive connection with the side walls 53 adjacent the front wall 18. The sections i7 and 48 are flanked by pointed tabs 54, slit as at 55, and foldable to form the end walls of the pencil trough. The tabs 51 are adhesively secured to the underside of the section 4L8 as clearly shown in Figure 3 of the drawing.
The side walls 53 are arranged adjacent the front wall 18, and are formed by fold lines 56 and 57. One of the side walls 53 is flanked by a flap 58 for adhesive connec tion with the back of the rear wall 16 when the blank has been folded as shown in Figure 4 of the drawing. The other side wall is flanked by a section 59 having a slitportion 60. The section 59 is scored as at 61 to provide a leg 62. The slit 60 provides a tab 62 which is adapted to be bent outwardly at right angle to the section 59 on the line 61 to form a brace for the leg 62 when it is desired to place the holder in a standing position. The portion 46 is approximately twice the width of the sections 47, 18, -19 and 50 and serves as a bottom for the pocket 12 as well as a reinforcing bottom for the pocket 11.
From the foregoing description taken .in'
connection with the accompanying drawing, it is believed that the construction and manner of folding is clearly set forth and a further description is not deemed necessary. For advertising purposes the wall 18 may have suitable indicia 63 printed thereon and likewise the other walls of the pockets may be provided with indicia indicative of the articles to be placed therein. This printing may be placed thereon whilethe blank is cut out and it will be noted that all the printing takes place on the same side of the blank to thereby eliminate the necessity of reversing the blank for marking the same.
While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied without in any way departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claims.
What is claimed as new is 1. A holder formed from a single blank of material, cut and bent to form a rear wall, an intermediate wall, and a front wall. side walls connecting said intermediate wall with said rear wall to form a pocket, a bottom for said pocket, side walls integral with said front wall and having flaps adjacent thereto for adhesive connection to the back of said rear wall to form a second pocket, a bottom therefor, and a plurality of sections between the front wall and said last bottom foldable for forming a trough.
2. A holder formed from a single blank of material cut and bent to form a rear wall, an intermediate wall, and a front wall, side walls connecting said intermediate wall with said rear wall to form a pocket a bottom for said pocket, side walls integral with said front wall and having flaps adjacent thereto for adhesive connection to the back of said rear wall to form a second pocket, a bottom therefor, and a plurality of sections between the front wall and said last bottom foldable for forming a trough, and a part adjacent one of the end walls of said first pocket, fold able over said intermediate wall for forming a relatively small pocket,
Tn testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
M ORR-IS E. FELDMAN.
