IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,480, dated May 6, 1873; application filed April 23, 1873.

To all whom it may concern.'

Be it known that I, FREDERIC 000K, of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, and State of Louisiana, have invented certain Improvements in Bale-Ties, of which the following is a specification:

The nature of my invention consists of the metallic cotton-tie band, having at one end a loop bent at rightangles with the band to receive the other end of the band, which may be passed through straight, the slack drawn up and then turned under against the bale; or a hook may be bent before tyingv just at the length required for the hoops, which hook can be hooked into the right-angled loop provided for it.

Referring to drawing, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the two ends of the bands. Fig. 2 is a section through A B, showing the end of the band C hooked into the loop D. Fig. 3 is a section through A B, showing the end ofthe band C drawn through loop D endwise, and then bent under against the bale.

To make this tie, I first take a straight piece i of band-iron, bend it over against itself about eight inches at'one end, then bend it double at E, leaving enough projecting at right angles to form the` loop D. It may or may not be riveted at H. By making the bend E in the double thickness of iron and lea-ving the end F in line with the body of band Gr, I obtain a stronger tie and a better one than -by making the bend E in a single thickness of iron.

What I claim, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is

The cotton-tie, constructed as shown and described, having the loop D at right angles with the body of the band and the bend E in a double thickness of the band.
