Description

E. D. CHADICK.
Bale-Tie. N0. 164,142. Patentedlune8,l875.
VENTOR THE GRAPH IO CO.PHUTO L TH.39 8A1 PARK PLAGLNX,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWIN D. CHADIGK, OF DENISON, TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,142, dated J line 8, 1875 ;-application filed May 22, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN D. OHADIeK, of Denison, Grayson county, Texas, have invented a new and Improved Bale-Tie, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a view of my improved tie, partly in section, and shown in position for passing the buckle through the loop of the band. Fig. 2 is a view of the same shown as locked.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved tie for cotton-bales and other bales, w ich shall be simple in construction, and We 'enient and reliable in use.
The invention consists in a bale-tie consistin g of the tubular T- shaped buckle, in combination with a wire band, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the buckle, and B represents the wire band. The body of the buckle A is made hollow or tubular, and has hook-arms a formed upon the opposite sides of its forward end, and projecting outward and forward. One end, 11 of the wire B is passed through the hollow of the buckle A, is bent back along the outer side of the said-buckle, and is wound around the body of the wire band B, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. This construction allows the buckle A to be turned upon the wire B. The other end of the wire B is turned back upon itself, and is twisted around the body of the said wire to form a loop, 11 to be passed over the hook-arms a of the buckle A. The loop b is formed either before or after the wire band B has been put in the press, but preferably after, as it enables the length of the band to be made to correspond with the size of the bale. The loop I; is passed over the hook-arms a of the buckle A by turning the said buckle A partly around, as shown in Fig. 1. The buckle A is then turned back to bring the loop 1) below or above the said buckle, and as the bale expands the loop I) will be drawn snugly upon and held securely by the said buckle. The buckle A may be made in any convenient manner, and of any suitable metal, either wrought or cast, as may be desired.
Having thus described myinvention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- I Abale-tie consisting of the tubular T-shaped buckle A, in combination with a wire band,
as described.
