Description

L. D. LUTTMER.
TOOL HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 24. 1920.
Patented July 12, 1921.
INVENTOR ATTORNEY W My! UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TOOL-HOLDER.
Application filed May 24,
To all 107mm it may concern:
, Be it known that I, LUDWIG D. LUITMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wylie, in the county of Ited Lake and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tool-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tool holders and has -for its object the pro 'ision of a device adapted to be secured within the pocket of the wearer, as for instance in an overalls pocket, and so constructed as to hold a pair of pliers in position so that they cannot be lost and yet so that they can be conveniently grasped when their use is needed.
An important object is the provision of a device of this character which will be extremely simple and inexpensive in manufacture, highly efficient in use, durable in service, and a general improvement in the art. i
With the above and other objectsand advantages in View, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is an elevation of my device showing a pair of pliers therein, and
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates a plate of sheet metal of elongated rectangular form which is bent intermediate its ends, as shown at l to provide a bottom portion and which is rebent upon itself to provide a portion 12 cxtendng in spaced parallel relation to the body 10. The corners of this portion 12 are preferably diagonally cut away, as shown at if), though this is not essential.
Secured upon the extremity of the portion 12, as by a rivet lei, is a sprin 15 which is bent intermediate its ends, as shown at 16, so as to be disposed close to the body portion 10 and the extremity 1'? of the spring extends an appreciable distance away from-the plate body 10.
In order that the device may be held socurely within the pocket of overalls or other garment, I provide the plate with a plurality of holes 16 through which may be passed cords or the like securing the device within the pocket.
The device is intended particularly for Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 12, 1921.
1920. Serial No. 383,860.
use'in holding pliers designated by the letter A, and the pliers are engaged within the device by inserting them between the portion 16 of the spring and the plate 10 and forcing them downwardly into thespace between the plate body 10 and the portion 12 thereof. As the pliers are thus forced downwardly, the portion 16 of the spring will snap past the head of the pliers and redispose itself adja cent the plate portion 10 so as to form a stop which will prevent the pliers from being jostled out of the device. lVhen the operator has need of the device it is merely necessary that he grasp the handles of the pliers and .pull them out of the device in a very obvious manner. I 7
From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided a very simply constructed and consequently very inexpensive device which may be secured within a garment pocket and which is particularly adapted forholding a pair of pliers in convenient position so that they may be readily used but which will positively prevent loss of the pliers.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction, and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A tool holder comprising an elongated rectangular metallic plate formed at one end with an upwardly extending retaining portion disposed in spaced parallel relation to the plate, said plate being adapted for disposition within the users pocket and being provided with holes for the passage of securing means, and an upwardly extending leaf spring disposed longitudinally of the plate and having its lower end secured to the upper end of said retaining portion and being bent intermediate its ends whereby to engage against the plate with its upper extremity bent away from the plate to define a flaring entrance opening between the plate and the spring.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
