IMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-STANDARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,402, dated April 29, 1873; application filed March 27, 1873.
. construction and arrangement of av wagon standard and brace, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the end of .a wagon-bolster with my improved standard attached thereto, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the upper end of the standard.
A represents the end of a wagon-bolster. B is the standard, and O the brace for the standard. The standard B and brace are made of one piece of metal, bent in proper shape, as shown. The lower end of the standardis made round and passed through a plate, D, and bolster A, said plate D being fastened to the bolster. The standard B is then fastened by a nut, a, on its lower end, while the lower end of the brace C is bent to rest on the bolster and fastened by a bolt and nut, 01. At the bend of the combined standard and brace a bolt, 1), is passed through them, with a thimble, h, placed on said bolt between the standard and brace.
One or more other thimbles and bolts may be placed between the standard and brace.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the bolster A and its plate D, of the standard and brace B 0, made of one piece of fiat metal, with a tenon passing through the bolster, and secured by the nut a on one side and by the nut 01 on the other, and the thimble it between the parts, through which is passed the bolt b, all as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of March, 1873.
