NO. 138,816, I Patented MayI3,1873."
Iii rehiors AM. PHOTO-LITHUSRAPHIC (20 NY mam/1E3; Pnacsss) Whesses UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE. v
TOM PIOKARD AND JoSEPH PIOKARD, OF MINONK, ILLINOIS; SAID TOM PIGKARD ASSIGNOR TO SAID JOSEPH PIGKARD.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOLSTER-PLATES FOR WAGONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,816, dated May 13, 1873; application filed January 10, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, TOM PIGKARD and JOSEPH PICKARD, of Minonk, in the county of Woodford and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagons; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters'of reference marked thereon.
The nature of our invention consists in a device to be attached to the bottom of the wagon-box for holding the same to its place on the bolster, and keep the bottom and sides of the box from wearing against the bolster and stake.
In order to enable othersskilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the hind end of a wagon-box with our improvement at transverse flanges, E E, braced to the ends of the plate in any suitable manner. The plate 0, with its flanges D and E B, may be made of malleable or cast iron, and is nailed or screwed to the bottom of the box at the outer side, one on each side of the box, the flange D coming on the outside against the stake to keep it from wearing onthe box. The plate 0 rests on the bolster, the two flanges E E fitting one on each side of the same, thus keeping the Wagon-box from shiftin g backward or forward.
This device thus holds the wagon-box in its place on the bolster, and also protects the bottom and side of the box from wear by the friction of the stake and bolster.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The plate 0, adapted to be fastened to the bottom of the wagon-box, and provided with the flange D, to extend up along the side of the box, and with flanges E E to fit over the bolster, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that We claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 19th day of December, 1872. I
. TOM PIGKARD.
