Patented May 3, 1921.
Application filed J'uly 9, 1919. Serial No. 359,743.
To all whom t may concer/rt:
Be it known that I, HERMAN L. GREVE, citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of New York, inthe county of Kingsand State of New York, have invented cer' tain new and useful Improvements in M ailing-Wrappers, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to mailingwrappers and the object of my invention 1 s to provide an adjustable wrapper of this character for mailing books andV small boxes, etc.,
Figure 1 is a view of the inner side of thek body portion of a wrapper embodying myk invention.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged view of the wrapper l shown in cross section on line X-X of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the wrapper illustrating the overlying inner flaps or extensions I) which extend over the ends of the book inclosed.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the opposite side of the wrapper with the book inclosed and the fastening means in place.
A aiid B respectively indicate the two body portions of the wrapper, each formed of strong flexible paper or other suitable material, and each having its outer edge reinforced by a thin sheet Vof relatively st iff material such as lead, zinc or soft iron indicated by C, which is folded over the edge of the body portion as shown at'E and serves also to hold one side of the iap portion D as clearly shown in Fig. 4. Thisl metal portion C is scored at the placeswhere the metal must be bent considerably as illus- `trated at F to permit it to give easily'at these points. The portions A and B are made so as to be-adjustable laterally relative to each other, the portion A having an extension illustrated in dotted lines, formed Y in the blank and indicated by G, the ends G-G respectively of which are bent and passed through slotsII-H respectively and cemented together as illustrated in dotted lines at I in Fig. 3. This construction forms a band and guide combination which holds the parts together in adjustable relation so that it can be made of a width to correspond to the length of the book to be wrapped. The book is inclosed in the wrapper as illustrated in F igs. 5 and 6, the flap portions D extending from the edge portions C over the the body portions, the whole'being held together by the button Aand string combination K and K as illustrated. By this construction the book iswell protected and yet the wrapper does not enfold so completely as to prevent ready inspection bythe Post Oliice authorities. The simplicity of the construction is such that further description is deemed unnecessary. Y
.Having thus described my invention I claim as newv and desire to secure by Letters 'Patentz- Y l. A wrapper made of thin flexible mate' rial consisting of two longitudinally exrespective ends of the book J and held byV tendingportions held together and relatively adjustable laterally and having a side Hap connected to one of said portions and adapted to extend therefrom over the end of the article inclosed to cover and hold the same.
rial consisting of two longitudinally Yextending portions held together and relatively adjustable laterally, each kportion having a side flap extending from its side and adapted to overlie the adjacent end of the article inclosed.Y
A wrapper made of thin flexible material consisting of two longitudinally extending portions heldtogether and relatively adjustable laterally, each portion having one edge provided with reinforcing material and a side flap held to the body portion by said reinforcing material.V
4. A wrapper comprising two longitudi- 2. A wrapper madeV of thin flexible mate-v ioo nally extending portions, means for holding Signed at New York city, in the county said portions together in adjustable relation, of Kings and State of New yYork this 8th each portion having a reinforcing strip of day of uly, A. D. 1919.
metal connected to one of its edges and a HERMAN L. GREVE. f
flap portion held by said metal strip, said Witnesses: metal strip being scored to permit it to bend A. B. HALLAM, easily in conforming to the shape of a book. A. T. -WHEELER.
