Be it known that l, ALBERT Samoan, citizen of the French Republic, residing 1 Rue Pajou, city of Paris, France, have invented new" and useful improvements in Envelopes, Postal lWrappers, or the like, of which the following is a specification.

lhis invention relates to improvements in envelopes, postal wrappers, and the like and is applicable to those 01" variable dimen sions ordinarily used, the object being to provide an improvedwrapper for postal purposes which may be opened very quickly without any tool and without necessitat' g the insertion of a finger at the corner fold of the envelope. To effect this i provide a special tongue depending from the body oi the wrapper which is grasped between two fingers thus allowing said wrapper to be torn open along the wrapper edge, narrow band running along said edge being varnished or otherwise rendered thicker and facilitating such tearing'out, such band being in line with the said tongueor tongues, as hereinafter described and claimed.

Fig. 1 shows the improved envelope as sold in the trade, open on the side where the closing flap is provided, in aposition parallel to the fold along which the envelope is intended to be torn open, with a narrow band in relief-placed opposite to the protruding tongue. 7 V

The flap B of the envelope is covered, as usually, in the vicinity of its angular edge with a layer of an adhesive material such as glue which occupies a narrow band cl parallel to the said edge.

When the envelope or postal wrapper containing documents or pieces of correspondence is being closed and stuck, the protruding tongue a or tongues a may be, if desired, folded inwardly on the body of the envelope or wrapper. r

In order to open this envelope or wrapper without any tool, the user of? the envelope only needs to maintain the tongue (t or Z) between two of his fingers and then to exert a pull in the direction of the line 0 0; the latter part being reinforced owing to the layer of material 0, such av pull causes the Hep B to be torn open along a ripping line parallel to the reinforcement band 6.

lVhat I claim and desire to secure bv Letters Patent is H An improved envelope, capable of being opened without necessitating any special tool. the said envelope being provided on its in nor face in position parallel to the line along which the closing flap is folded with a narrow band on which a semi-fluid substance-or varnish is applied so as to render the paper thicker, the paper being formed op positeto this narrow be nd on one side with a protruding tongue.
