To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY VJ. BELLns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stewardson, in the county of Shelby and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Telephone Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and"useful improvements in disinfectant holders, and is particularly designed to be used in connection with telephone transmitter mouth-pieces to render them as highly sanitary as possible. V

Another important object of the invention is to provide means for retaining the disinfectant holder within the transmitter mouth piece and which provides means for supporting notation cards or pads, advertisements or any other similar artlcle.

It is further the object of the invention to provide a disinfectant holder which may be readily positioned within the transmitter mouth piece of a telephone so that the holder I will not interfere with the use of the telephone.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application and wherein like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the several views,

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention applied to a telephone transmitter mouthpiece, and

Fig. 2 is a view of the device looking into the mouthpiece.

In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 3 designates the usual telephone transmitter mouth piece in which it is known that germs have been spread from various persons using the telephone, and it is one object of my invention to prevent the spread of such germs as well as to accomplish other objects set forth and which will appear as the description proceeds.

A disinfectant holder 4 is in the form of a container in which is placed a disinfectant and if preferred some kind of absorbent material 5. It is of course, understood that the holder may be of various shapes, but I prefer to employ a disk like container embodying a removable top or closure 6 for retaining the absorbent material within the contalner. The closure is equipped with a plur'ahty of apertures 7 to ermit the disinfectant vapor to arise wlthin the mouth plece 3. It will also be obvious that the dismfectant may be perfumed or have other characteristics which would not make the same disagreeable to persons using the telephone. 7

In the preferred form of holder or contamer 4, the sides' 8 are concaved and equipped with a surrounding groove not shown. This groove is adapted to receive a clamping portion 9 of a spring clip and retain the same in engagement with the holder. However, should the clamping portion become disengaged from its retaining groove, the holder will not become dislocated from the clamping portion, inasmuch as the contour of the sides 8 precludes such movement. As most clearly shown in Fig. 1, the container engages the interior of the relative bottom of the mouth piece and is supported with its closure 6 uppermost to prevent liquid disinfectant from escaping therefrom.

The spring clip 10 which retains the dis infectant holder within the mouth piece is constructed from a single strand of resilient wire, and as stated before embodies a circular clamping portion 9 which snugly embraces the holder. The clamping portion 9 constitutes the intermediate portion of the wire and its ends are directed outwardly to project slightly beyond the mouth piece, then depend to provide a pair of spaced arms 11. These arms extend a substantial distance below the relative bottom of the mouthpiece and are then directed upwardly as at 12 toward the same. The free ends 13 of the arms 11 flare outwardly from one another and engage the exterior of the relative bottom of the mouthpiece for retaining the disinfectant holder within the same. Consequently it will be apparent that the holder may be readily associated with a telephone mouth piece of the usual construction and will be securely retained in engagement therewith due to the engagement of the spring clip with the mouth piece.

The depending and upwardly projecting portions of the arms 11 constitute a loop or means for supporting a notation card or pad 14 and in fact, any kind of advertisement or like article. If desired, the article 1 1 may be a light metal plate containing advertising matter and an aperture 15 for the entrance of the arms 11 of the spring clip.

The foregoing description and accompanying drawings have reference to what might be considered to be the approved or preferred form of my invention. I desire it to be understood that I may make such changes in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, materials, dimensions, et cetera, as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is z- 1. The combination with a telephone mouth piece, of a disinfectant holder mounted therein, and means for retaining the same in the mouthpiece and projecting therefrom for supporting a card or the like.

2. The combination with a telephone mouth piece, of a disinfectant holder mounted therein, a supporting clip secured to said holder and projecting therefrom, and said clip engaging the outside .of said telephone mouth piece and supporting a card or the like.

The combination with a telephone mouth piece, of a disinfectant holder mounted therein, a spring clip secured to said holder and having a portion depending from the mouth piece to support a card or the like, and the free end of said clip being extended to engage the mouth piece to retain the holder therein.
