Be it known that I, WALTER W. WELPLEY,

a citizen of the United States of America,

residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in T0othbrush Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple, durable, inexpensive, neat andsanitary tooth brush holder in which a tooth brush or similar article may ber easily and quickly placed/ and frictionally held, without any danger of the tooth brush or article becoming accidentally displaced. That portion of the tooth brush or article within the holder is protected from dust and lother foreign matter. and the manner in which the tooth brush is held permits of various sizes of brushes being retained within the holder without the bristles being injured orl any part of the tooth brush marred. The holder consists of four partsone of which serves two purposes, namely a hanger `for the holder and a gripping device forthe brush, and it is the simplicity of construction which contributes to a practical device. f

The tooth brush holder will be hereinafter considered and then claimed., and vreference will now be had to the drawing, wherein-d Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the tooth brush holding device, showing a brush therein;

The holder comprises an oblong stal! or thimle shaped container 1 having a closed or dome shaped upper end 2 and ya lower open end 3, which permits of the bristle end 11 of the tooth brush 5 being placed therein. The stall 1 is preferably made of a transparent material, as glass, Celluloid or light composition, and the upper closed end 2 thereof has a small Vent sothat air may circulate through the stall 1 and prevent the accumulation of moisture on the innery wall of the stall which might cause dust and other matter to settle thereof and render the stall unsanitary.

preferably at the upper and` lower lends thereof, are bands 6' having ends thereof ex tending through slots or slits 7 in a hanger 8 which has its upper end apertured, as at 9, so that it may be suspended trom ya hook 10 or attached Ato a suitablefsupport by suitable fastening means. The lower end of the hanger is bent to provide a hook-shaped resilient clamping member 11 which extends into the stall 1 andfrictionally engages the back of the tooth brush 5 tofrictionally hold the bristles thereof against the inner front 55 wall of the stall 1.- I y The bands 6 may be made of Celluloid or any material that may be bent or formed to frictionally embrace the stall land the ends of each band are somewhat hook shaped, as

at 12 so that the hbokshaped ends may be threaded in the slits or slots 7 to bind against the hanger 8 and thus hold the stall 1 relative to said hanger. The hook shaped ends 12 may support'the hangerl 8 somewhat in spaced relation to a wall or these `hook shaped ends may be flattened against the rear wall of the hanger 8, so that thehanger may be tacked or otherwise permanently fixed on the support. f

|The hanger 8 can be made of celluloidr or any material which will provide a resilient clamping end within the stall 1 and when the stall is devoid of a brush theresilient clamping end 11 extends in proximity to the front wall yof the stall so as to be in the path of the brush inserted therein. The clamping member 11 recedes as the upper end ofthe brush is pressed into the stall 1 and the clamping member eventually binds against 'the back of the brush and positively retains the same within the stall. The width of the hanger 8 permits of the band vends 12 being positively anchored in engagement therewith and the clamping member at thelower end of the hanger is of such width that it will present a sufficient contactarea against the back of the brush to frictionally hold the same.
