JAMES H. HARRIS, 0F ASHLAND, VIRGINIA.
TOOTH-BRUSH HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 25, 1919.
Application filed November 13, 1918. Serial No. 262,349.
This invention relates to toilet articles,
and more particularly to tooth brush holders.
The object of the invention is to provide a. simple and convenient sanitary container for tooth brushes which may be suspended from any suitable support and be readily accessible to the user.
Another object is to provide a holder of this character having yieldable securing means for the brush so that in traveling it may be carried without rattling of the brush or displacement thereof.
Another object is to so construct such a container that it may also be used for holding shaving brushes, soap and the like, or other articles.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts. and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a front elevation of the holder constituting this invention,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical 'section thereof with the top shown closed in full lines and partly open in dotted lines, taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
In the embodiment illustrated, the holder constituting thisinvention comprises a flat back member 1 preferably composed of sheet metal, although not necessarily so, and which has one end bent laterally at right angles to form a bottom 2, the perimeter of said bottom being rounded so that it presents a semi-circular form as shown in Fig. 2. The upper end 3 of this back 1 is apertured as shown at 4. to provide .for its suspension from a nail or other suitable support.
Projecting laterally from the backing 1 are two longitudinally spaced bands Sand 6 preferably composed of metal and made semicircular in form, the ends of said bands being bent laterally inward as shown at 7 and then folded toward the body of the band as shown at 8 to form hooks which are inter-engaged with inturned flanges 9 formed along the side edges of the backing 1 as is shown clearly in Fig. 3. A cover 10 is hinged to the backing at a point spaced inwardly from the apertured end thereof, and is made in the form of a semi-circular disk, the rounded edge of which is in alinement with the perimeter of the bottom 2.
A foraminous cover 11 is secured over the band 6 and under band 5, the latter having an inturned flange 5 between which and the body portion of the band said covering is clamped as is shown clearly in Fig. 2. The lower end of this covering extends under the bottom 2 around its periphery and is clamped thereto by a flange 12 formed around said bottom.
This foraminous covering 11 While it keeps out dusts and insects, permits the free circulation of air thereto so that brushes and other articles contained therein will be fully aerated.
The holder proper for the tooth brush is carried by the inner face of the back 1 and is here shown in the form of a pocket 13 formed of sheet metal with fingers 14 projecting from the backing 1 and clamped into engagement with the rear face thereof. The pocket 13 preferably tapers toward its lower end and has an inwardly extending resilient tongue 15 carried by the front wall thereof and which is designed to clampingly engage the handle of a tooth brush and hold it securely clamped between it and the inner face of the backing 1 so that all danger of rattling of the brush is avoided and yet it may be readily withdrawn for use when desired.
This pocket 13 is preferably provided with ventilating apertures 16, any desired number of which may be employed, two being here shown. I
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent tothose skilled in the art to which the invention appertains and while I have described the principle of operation ofthe invention together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are Within the scope of the claimed invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is z- 1. A device of the class described comprising a back having one end extended laterally to form a bottom, a top hinged to its upper end, a foraminous covering arranged between said top and bottom and secured to said back, means for holding said covering in extended position, and an article clamp carried by said back Within said covering.
2. A device of the class described comprising a sheet metal back-having one end extended laterally to form a. bottom, the side edges thereof being bent r'earwardly and inwardly to form clamping flanges, a foraminous covering secured between said flanges and back, means for holding said covering in
