Description
H. R. EDWARDS. SANITARY HOLDER FOR RAzoR STROP INVENTOH WITNESS ATTORN EY 341.211 3. EDWARDS, or- HELPER, UTAH.
SANITARY HOLDER FOR RAZOR-STROPS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 22, 1919.
Application filed April s, 1918. Serial No. 227,231.
I To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RALPH It. EDWARDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Helper, in ,the county of Carbon and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Holders for Razor-Strops, of which the following is v a specification.
' This invention relates to improvements in razor strops and similar articles and its primary object is to provide a simple and practical container for the strop which will keep the latter disinfected and in entirely sanitary condition.
With the above and other objects in view as will hereinafter appear, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter de scribed and claimed, and illustrated in theaccompanying drawings in whichi "Figure 1 is a side or end elevation of a razor strop holder or container constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken 7 on line 3--3 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4 is a similar sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a casing in which is to be inclosed the ordinary razor strop 2, the latter preferably constructed of the usual leather and canvas members and being secured to a roller 3 on which it is wound. The roller 3 is actuated by a s ring 4 arranged within it, as shown in 1g.'3, and while any sort of spring roller may be 'employed, I preferably make the latter similar to the well known type of window shade roller. The spring 4 tends to actuate the roller 3 to draw the strop into the-casing through an opening 5 and'on the free end of the strop is a handle loop 6 which is of greater length than the length of the slot 5 to prevent it from passing into the casing under the action of the spring roller.
While the casing 2 ma be of any desired shape and construction, prefer making it in the form of a cylinder as shown, and leave one end open to be closed by a'removable' circular cover 7 which may be secured in any desired manner but which, as shown in Fig. 4, is provided with an internally threaded annular flange 8 adapted to engage screw threads 9 0n the open end or side of the casing 1. The cover or removable side 7 strop.
and the opposite side or end of the casing are provided with centrally arranged openings to receive the journals on the ends of the spring actuated roller. 3, as will be seen on reference to Fig. 4. To support the casing from a hook, or the like, on a barbers chair or other support, I preferably provide a suspending link 10 provided at its upper end with a loop or eye and having at its lower end a suitable swiveled connection,
shown at 11, to the top of the casing l. As shown in Fig. 4, this swiveled connection consists of a spherical head on the link 10 arranged within a stamped metal bracket plate 12 suitably secured to the casing.
For the purpose of disinfecting the razor strop and keeping it in a sanitary condition,
I provide on one side of the casing 1 a tank or container 13 provided with a centrally arranged filling-opening 14 closed by a screw plug 15 or other suitable closure. The container. 13 is preferably formed from a piece of metal stamped into a concave formation and having its edge secured to the side wall of easing 1, as shown at 16, whereby a portion of such casing forms one wallof-the container or tank. This container-13 is preferably filled with an'absorbent material 17 such as cotton or felt, adapted to be saturated with a disinfectant or antiseptic so-.
lution of any character introduced through the opening 14. To permit the fumes from the'disinfectant to enter the interior of the casing 1, I provide upper and lower vent tubes 18 and 19 which project from the casing into the tank or container 13 as shown in Fig. 3. Owing to this construction and the use of absorbent material 17, it will be seen that the. solution or liquid will be prevented from enterin the casing 1 and wetting the strop. At t e same time, the spaced arrangement of the tubes 18 and 19 permits of a circulation through the tank 13 and casing 1, so that as the strop is wound and unwound, the fumes from the disinfectant will come in contact with the two members of the From the foregoin it will be seen that,
by the construction a We described, I provide for the keeping of the strop when not in use in a substantiall close container or casing where it will be ept free from dust and at the same time, I provide asimple and effective means for disinfecting or fumiating the strop each time it is used by being rawn out of or moved into the casing.
To prevent the strap from being damaged, the side walls of the slot 5 have rolled edges,
as shown in Fig. 3.
While I have shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, I wish it understood that slight changes of shape, proportions and arrangement of parts may be'resorted to within the spirit and scope of the invention as herein claimed.
I claim:
A device of the character set forth comprising a cylindrical casing having an openin in its bottom, a pair of vertically spaced tu es projecting outwardly from the curved wall of the casing on one side at a point about midway between its top and bottom, said tubes having their inner ends communieating with the interior ofthe casing, a concaved stamped metal member arran ed over theopen outer ends o f the spaced tuIms and having its edge shaped to conform to and secured to the adjacent portions of the curved wall of the casing to provide a disinfectant container, an absorbent member in said disinfectant container, and means to permit a disinfectantor' the like to be applied to said absorbent member. s
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RALPH R. EDWARDS.
