SANITARY RAZOR STROP HOLDER Filed Aug. 9. 1934 @www MMM .4 TTORNE Y Patented Dec. 11, 1934 UNirED stares.
VvPATENT oFFleE Application August 9,
A 3 Claims.
This invention relates to holders for razor strops such as are usually made of leather or canvas and particularly those used in barber shops where razors are used in shaving diiferent people.
'A razor strop hung in the old fashioned way in the open, not only gathers whatever germs there may be from different razors used on dierent people, but gathers all the dust and dirt which may be in the air.
This device is of the type in which one or more razor strops are wound or rolled up on a drum or barrel inside a casing by means of a spring which usually is of the ribbon or coil type. Such a device should include the parts which can quickly be separated so that they 'can all be boiled or washed and shouldalsc include a pocket or holder for a powerful disinfectant which may be contained in a sponge or in solid form. This device is solid, compact and easily assembled or taken apart so that it can be kept in a sanitary condition at all times. It may also be combined with the arrn of a barbers chair in such a way that it is entirely out of sight except that the end or ends of the strop or strops may project.
My razor strop holder while more necessary for barbers on account of the sanitary requirements is equally useful and convenient for individuals who shave themselves.
In the drawing, Fig. 1 is an isometric view of the holder with two razor strops in place.
Fig. 2 is a View of the chain, snap hook and the end of a strop.
Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section of the holder and strops.
Fig. 4 is a vertical cross section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3 looking in the direction of the arrow.
Fig. 5 is an isometric view of a modification, part being broken away to show the construction.
Fig. 6 is a detail showing how the spring is attached to the pin.
Fig. 7 is a vertical section of a modified form of disinfectant pocket.
In the drawing, C represents an outer casing which is preferably of cylindrical form with one end 7 closed and having near its center a concentric pocket l and perforations 2 and a threaded pin hole 3 together with interior holder threads 4. Hanger 6 is attached to casing C on the outside and 5 is a strop slot through which an all leather razor strop such as F, F can be pulled.
H represents a disinfectant holder of substantially cylindrical form having its inside end 11 1934, serial No. 739,091
open and its outside rim 12 preferably knurled so that it can ,be put in place or removed manually and outside threads 14 which engage the inside threads 4 on the pocket.
Preferably there are slotted perforatio-ns 15, 15 through which and through the end 11, the emanations from a sponge 17 saturated with disinfectant can pass and then through the perforations 2 in pocket 1 so as to permeate the Whole inside of casing C. The open end 8 of casing C is closed by a head A which fits it and has a central pin hole 13 through which passes an assembling pin P one end of which is threaded at 20 and is screwed into the pin hole 3 in pocket 1. Pin P preferably has at the exterior a knurled nut 21 screwed in place on threads 23 up against head A to lock head A in place. Head A has an annular groove which ts the edge 9 of the curved surface 19 which forms the rim of end 8.
D is a drum having an interior hub 30 through which pin P passes, the drum D being revoluble on pin P. Preferably between hub 30 and the drum rim 39, which has .perforations 38, is a pocket recess 32 through which the emanations from the disinfectant in holder I-I can pass. The outside rim 39 of drum D has a chain recess 58 in which is a chain pin 35 to which chain B can be attached and also a spring recess 33 in which is positioned a spring pin 34.
S is a spring of the flat ribbon or coil type which is fastened at one end to the spring pin 34 of the drum D and at the other end is bent into a slot 24 in pin P.
B represents a chain fastened at one end to chain pin 35 and, as shown, fastened at the other end to a clamp 50 to which one end of one or more razor strops such as F can be fastened as by means of a bolt 5l. Included in chain B is preferably a snap hook 5'7 preferably of the swivel type so that the strop F or strops when pulled out can be reversed with either side up.
One or more of such strops F, F can be used and each preferably has at its other or outer end a suitable handle 59 by which the strop can be pulled out. Preferably this is some sort of a ring or other device which will prevent the strop from being wound up so completely through slot 5 when the spring is Winding up that its free end will be lost inside of the holder.
By unscrewing nut 21, head A and spring S can be removed, the strops F, F can be detached from the chain B, drum D can be removed and then holder H can be removed and emptied and then all the metal parts can be boiled or otherwise disinfected.
This device is particularly useful when combined with the arm of a barbers chair indicated by K. Instead of the hanger 6, ears such as 61 fasten the casing C to the arm K and then the cover L, having a recess for the casing, is set down in its usual position. This arrangement permits a barber to have his strop or strops in a very convenient position where he can use them readily, but Where they will not be exposed to dirt or dust, except when actually stropping a razor.
As shown in Fig. 7, instead of forming a pocket such as 1 and using a disinfectant holder such as H, a pocket can be formed in the casing with passages 71 and a head or hub 72 threaded for pin P and the disinfectant can be put in this pocket '70 loose or in a bag and the end closed as by a cork stopper 73.
I claim:
1. The combination in a razor strop housing of a cylindrical casing open at one end, having a strop slot and closed at its other end, said closed end having a perforated concentric pocket with a threaded pin hole at the end and interior` holder threads; with a hollow disinfectant holder screwed into the holder threads, said holder being open on its inside end and having a knurled rim on the outside; a removable head on the open end of the casing, said head having a pin hole; an assembling pin Which passes through said head pin hole and is screwed into the pin hole in the pocket and carries a knurled nut for locking the head in place; a perforated drum having an internal hub revoluble on said pin and having a chain recess and axial recesses for the pocket and for a Winding. spring; a winding spring posin tioned in said recess, one end being attached to the drum and the other to the assembling pin; a chain fastened to the drum and positioned in the recess thereof, said chain including a snap hook; together with a razor strop connected at one end With said snap hook and wound upon said drum with its free end projecting through the strop Slot.
2. The combination in a razor strop housing of a cylindrical casing open at one end, having a strop slot and closed at its other end, said closed end having a perforated concentric pocket with a pin hole at the end; a hollow disinfectant holder removably held in the pocket, said holder being open on its inside end and having a rim on the outside; a removable head on the open end of the casing, said head having a pin hole; an assembling p'in which passes through said head pin hole and into the pin hole in the pocket and which has a nut on its end for locking the head in place; a perforated drum having an internal hub revoluble on said pin and having a chain recess and axial recesses for the pocket and for a Winding spring; a winding spring positioned in said recess, one end being attached to the drum and the other to the assembling pin; a chain fastened to the drum and positioned in the recess thereof, said chain including a hook; together with a razor strop connected at one end With said hook and wound upon said drum with its free end projecting through the strop slot.
3. The combination in a razor strop housing of a cylindrical casing open at one end, having a strop slot and closed at its other end, said closed end having a perforated concentric pocket With a pin hole at the end; a removable head on the open end of the casing, said head having a pin hole; an assembling pin which passes through said head pin hole and into the pin hole in the pocket and which has a nut on its end for locking the head in place; a perforated drum having an internal hub revoluble on said pin and having a chain recess and axial recesses for the pocket and for a winding spring; a Winding spring positioned in said recess, one end being attached to the drum and the other to the assembling pin; and a chain fastened to the drum and positioned in the recess therein.
