Primarily the invention contemplates a condiment holder of the type specified whlch includes a simple, inexpensive and eflicient dispensing mechanism composed of a m nimum number of working parts capable of ready assembly or disassembly, whereby to facilitate cleansing of the same or replacement of worn or broken parts.
The invention further comprehends a d1spensing mechanism for condiment holders of the type specified including means for rendering the same readily detachable from the body of the holder which body is preferably of glass and breakable, whereby the said mechanism may be applied to a second body in event of such breakage.
With the above recited and other ob ects in view, reference is had to the following specification and accompanying drawings in which there is exhibited one example or embodiment of the invention which is in no way intended'a's a limitation upon the scope of the appended claims as it is to be clearly understood that variations and modifications which properly fall within the scope of said claims may be resorted to when found ex-.

Referringto the drawings by characters 50 of reference the condiment holder includes a body 10 preferably of glass, which is subdivided by a substantially vertical partition 11 into compartments 12 and 13, the partition extending from thebot-tom wall .14 to 56 the upper open end or neck 15. ment 13 of greater capacity than the compartment 12 so that the condiment which is used in larger quantities and more frequently, such as salt. may be contained in the larger compartment, and the condiment which is used in smaller amounts and less frequently, such as pepper, may be contained in the smaller compartment.
The dispensing mechanism consists of a substantially cylindrical head 16, which is formed with an outer peripheral flange or bead 17 at its lower end designed to fit over the upper open end or neck 15 of the body 10 and reniovably retained in place by an attaching ring or annulus 18, which is interio-rly threaded at 19 to engage the exterior threads 20 of the neck 15. The ring is formed with an annular rabbet 21 designed to receive the flange 17 and clamp the same for snugly connecting the head 16 to i th body 10. The u per end of the head 16 is exteriorly threa ed at 22 to receive the interiorly threaded depending flange 23 of a cap 24 having dispensing openings 25 therein through which the contents of the com partments are sifted.- v
In order to provide means forselectively preventing the dispensing of the contents of one compartment while allowing for the sifting of the contents of the'other compartment, the head 16 is sub-divided by a vertical partition 26 in its lower portion, the lower end of which partition is grooved at 27 to fit over the upper end of the body partition 11. The partition 26 is permanently secured to the head 16. The upper end of the partition 26 is formed with an arcuate groove 28 to constitute a seat for a leaf spring 29 and for hearing knuckles 30 and 31 of the substantially semi-circular shaped valve leaves 32 and 33. The bearing knuckle 30 extends from one edge of the valve leaf 32 to approximately the center thereof and from this point is provided with an axially extending reduced hinge pin 34, while the bearing knuckle 31 extendsfrom the opposite edge of the valve leaf 33 and is provided with an axial bore 35 for the reception of the hinge pin 34. Each bearingknuckle 30 is provided with an extension 37, which extensions protrude through vertical notches 38 in the cylindrieal head 16, which notches are disposed in alinement with the partition 26. The extending portions 37 are bent laterally and forme with manipulatin knobs 39 disposed, exterior of'the cylin rical head 16 to permit of the manual swinging of the valve leaves downwardly to an open relation to allow for the dispensing of the contents of the holder body compartments. In order to removably retain the valve leaf bearing knuckles in the seat 28 and at the same time to subdivide the upper portion of the head and close. the notches 38, a partition element 40 is provided, the under edge of which is formed with a semi-circular groove 41 adapted to overlie and bear on the bearing knuckles 30 and 31. The under side of the cap engages with and clamps the partition element 40 in place and friction on the bearing the knobs 39 selectively permits of the dispensing of the contents of either compartment, while manipulation of both to open the valve leaves allows for the sifting out of the contents simultaneously.
To fill the container body or to allow for the application of the dispensing mechanism I to a new container body in event of breakage,of the original one, it is only necessary to unscrew the ring or annulus 18 to detach the mechanism. 1
When it is desired to cleanse the mechanism, the same may be readily disassembled by removing the cap 24, which causes thf partition element 40 to release and permit removal of the valve leaves32 and 33.
From the foregoing it will tnus be seen that an extremely simple, yet highly efficient condiment holder has been devised which is sanitary and effectual.
What is claimed is:
1. In a condiment holder,'a body having a closed lower end and an open upper end, a partition sub-dividing the body into compartments for separately containing different condiments,- a head comprising a cylindrical wall. mounted on the upper open end of the body, a clamping ring detachably associating the head with the body, a partition in the lower end of the head, having a grooved lower end fitting over the body partition, valve leaves having alined bearing knuckles seated on the upper end of said head partiing the same in place, regulating the frictional bearing of th same, and for subdividing the upper portion of the head into compartments corresponding to the lower portion and to the body compartments.
2. In a condiment holder including a body, a partition sub-dividing the same into a pair of compartments, a head having a partition correspondingly subdividing the lower portion of the same, and a removable cap on said head havin sifter openings, swingable valve elements or each head compartment, and means interposed between the removable cap and the head partition for subdividing the upper portion of the head and for retaining the valve elements in mounted relation to the head partition.
3. In a condiment holder including a body, a partition sub-dividing the same into a pair of compartments, a head having a partition correspondingly subdividing the lower portion of the same, and a removable cap on said head having sifter openings, swingable valve elements for each head compartment, and means interposed between the removable ca and the head partition for subdividing't 6 upper portion of the head and for. retaining the valve elements in mounted relation to the head artition, the said removable cap when applied retaining said means in place and when removed releasing said means.
4. In a condiment holder, including a body, a partition su'bedividing the same into a pair of compartments, a head having a partition correspondingly subdividing the lower portion of the same, and a removable cap on said head havin sifter openings, swing'able .valve elements or each head compartment,
and means interposed between the removable cap and the head and for retaining the valve elements in mounted relation to the head artition, the said means having elements deing valve abutment devices.
