A device for disinfecting or deodorising a refuse bin comprises a perforated or foraminous container 1 for a wad or pellet of a volatile substance having disinfectant and/or deodorant properties, and a clip 5 adapted to be resiliently retained on the rim of the bin and hingedly engaged with the container at a point on or above the level of the top edge of the container so that the container is free to swing from a normal position of rest within the bin to an external position in which it lies clear of the inner wall of the bin so as not to impede the discharge of the contents of the bin under gravity, the container having a releasable retaining member 6 for preventing accidental ejection of the wad or pellet when the container is inverted. The container, generally of rectangular shape, is preferably made of a woven or mesh material having an inherent rust-resisting property or coated with a rust-proofing substance. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the box of the container is suspended from a wire frame 2, the middle portion of one side of the frame being bent up into a flattened loop 3 which is engaged by a partially completed eye formation 4 on the spring clip 5. The retaining member 6 in the form of a resilient strip, hinged on one side of the top edge of the container, is adapted to be swung down and clipped by its free end over the side of the wire frame opposite to that on which it is hinged. The spring clip 5 has an 180 degrees bend 7 which is so proportioned as to engage snugly the normal beaded or rolledover edge of the refuse bin rim. The outer limb 9 of the clip is bent outwards at its free end 10 in order to facilitate the introduction of the clip over the rim of the refuse bin.
